skimmer for 33g

So im gonna be getting a 33g at the end of the month, haha decided that over a 20 gallon, (its a better deal is my excuse).

im running a 5.5 right now, and no skimmer, just water changes, everything is doing great. do you think its possible to get away with this on a 33g, very lightly stocked. just a handful of inverts and a couple small damsels and mostly corals or should i invest in a skimmer?

if so anyone in van got a used one for sale

I've seen a few around. Are you planning to use a sump or are you wanting a hang on back skimmer?

I always found those hang on back skimmers sucked, and I found myself doing large water changes anyways. With a smaller tank I think you're better off with out the skimmer.

I'm running a Tunze 9002 which is pulling some nice skimmate in a setup with about 35G of water. I've got it in my sump but you can hang it internally off the rim of your tank. It's pretty little and pretty quiet. Used ones go for about $100 or so.

I think the Tunze 9002 or the Deltec MCE-300 are the only small tank, not drilled compatible skimmers that are useful. I wouldn't buy any of the others.

If you're drilling the tank and using a sump there are lots of great options.

You can easily do this without a skimmer as long as you stock lightly and do frequent water changes. A skimmer is definitely not a must in small set ups.

Just throwing this out there, but I've got a SWC mini hot skimmer that's just sitting there since i upgraded and bought a 160 cone a little while ago. I ran it hang on back on a 20 gallon and then used it in the 20 gallon sump for a 30 gallon display. Never had any problems in the bigger system, always pulled lots of nasty skimmate.

I'd give it away for $100

I have an aqua_c remora. It only ever pulled weak tea out but that's better than nothing being pulled out. I would almost give it away, but. Shipping would probably cost more than its worth. Had it on a 33 untill I upgraded.

I ran a Remora too.....until I upgraded to a Deltec MCE600 on my 33g display....works like a champ

As an alternative to Tunze 9002 , Aquamedic Turboflotor 500 and Hydor Slim Skim are pretty cheap at around $89 ( on sale ) to $149 brand new.... supposedly quite good too. The will fit in most nano tanks.

I have a Tunze Nano DOC on my 33 gal reef. Works perfect. I have a moderate to heavy bio-load.
