NEW -Tang Grazing Diet
For a long time now New Era have had a huge block for public aquariums to use for their Tangs and other herbivore fish, but NOW we can finally bring this amazing product to you in retail size!
http://reefbuilders.com/files/2011/0...e-grazer-4.png http://reefbuilders.com/files/2011/0...-2-300x188.png Video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sTfdXlEL5yM Available with feeding station the NEW MINI Marine grazers will come in 110g and 290g available within 4-5 weeks Here is what the media has been saying "New Era has a new product for your marine grazing fish. The new MINI MarineGrazer is a wheel-shaped disc that get affixed to your aquarium glass with a suction cup creating a feeding station for your fish to snack all day. The Mini MarineGrazer from New Era Aquaculture is a much easier and more nutritious way to feed grazing fish than folding up some nori or even worse, throwing some romaine lettuce into your aquarium. Designed for omnivorous grazing fish like tangs, butterflies and angels, the New Era MINI MarineGrazer was developed as a smaller version of its larger grazing diet logs used extensively in public aquariums. New Era has continues to use cold extruded manufacturing processes keeping a higher nutritional profile and more digestible food for healthier livestock. The company also touts using natural, sustainably sourced ingredients." |
Very cool! Do you have a list of ingredients? I'm wondering what they are binding with. Also, how long does the disk stay intact before it will fall off the holder? I'm wondering if it is designed to be replaced everyday or something that would sit in there for a week (maybe not the best idea).
I don't have any tangs, but I would like to try this product out for the rest of them. I would also be interested in trying a Spirulina disk if they ever decide to make one as Spirulina is good for color enhancement. |
email me sales@aqua-digital.com I will send it to you as always ;)
|
Also interested...would love to know when it will be available?
|
Ok think i can answer this better now doing my homework
ALL New era products are cold pressure extruded, the products are bound by high pressure (NOT HEAT), there is also a high algal content which forms a starch bonding agent that is rich in nutrition. The diet breaks down readily for easy consumption as you cna see in the video but does not fall apart. Put enough in for one feed at a time. |

Excellent! Can't wait to try it out. :D PS - awesome fish in the video! PPS - Thanks for the quick email reply! The ingredients look good! I think they are adding extra starch to the mix, though I don't see that being any trouble. |
While I have all your attention LOL, here are some great videos from New era of other foods being fed
Marine flake to Garden eels http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K_WkG...eature=related 6mm Marine pellet being fed at Dubai Mall http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xGHl_...eature=related |
I already hunted through all those videos. :D Great videos...love the Garden Eels eating flake! My reef fish LOVE the New Era flake.
|
We are now also working with Toronto Zoo and Vancouver aquarium are using the Marine flake for a breeding program :)
|
Mike wont this pollute the water how big are these and,
its not like a piece of Nori. |
No not at all what they dont eat as with all grazing food you can take out, but believe me my single Tang can eat a whole lump to himself.
Look at the feeding video there is nothing breaking up and polluting. |
I bought one of these from progressive reef when i was there, I thought it was a great idea my fish picked at it for a bit but once i left and came home they had devoured about half a block. I removed what they never touched and froze it just wondering if it would still be ok to use?
|
Mike, it does look pretty interesting. I got several large tangs in my tank which include a semi picky Achilles tang. The only thing he loves to eat is nori. So when the unit is available I would love to get one. You know I really wish they would make the holder with magnets instead of the crappy old suction cup. Anyways please let me know, thanks.

Great stuff Michael thanks!
The Achilles was straight from a Hawaiian import into a retailer in the UK and both those and Moorish Idols are loving the product! I can't remember who asked about how long it would last, but we would recommend having it in the aquarium for the duration that the aquarium lights are on so it more naturally replicates the grazing behaviour. The great thing about the product is that whilst the larger, more aggressive tangs and such are feeding they drop tiny particles from the pellet which are taken up by shoaling / smaller fish. You can see chromis feeding this way in the pics and we have some Anthias which have done extremely well in our office aquarium. There is also no "extra starch" in the formula compared to the other products. It's the process which makes this unique!! Also, there was a comment about Spirulina, whilst it is true that this is a good source of colour it isn't a marine product and we tend to use this primarily in our freshwater products. There is a small percentage in here, however it more heavily relies on natural marine algae (of which there are 4 separate species) in different sizes, shrimp and other crustaceans which will replicate what these species would naturally eat. We always aim to use products they would naturally eat rather than products which may have other effects! Andy |
This is great info Andy :) thanks for the input which answers I think nearly all questions.
Now we just need to get it over here - chop chop  |
This looks really great, I can't wait to try it out.
