Recommend an acrylic tank builder to me

Most of you know I am building a very custom drop off reef tank.

I've received quotes from Fish tanks direct and midwest aquarium builders.

Anyone else I should check out. The above two companies gave me pretty competitive quotes.

I came very close to building a tank with James years back and he's a great guy to deal with and if you read around the forums builds incredibly solid tanks.

Lol no I'm not trolling. But I'm pretty sure I've figured out a way to convert a rectangular tank to l shape successfully. Will be testing on a 25 gal by the weekend and if it works I'm going to do it on a 6 footer

OoOoOoOo.

Starting my build next week hopefully.

I'll share if it works

Here's a hint: what's the opposite of overflow? Underflow?

Gripenfelter 08-23-2011 06:23 PM

Well the simple way that someone suggested to me was to simply make a box out of glass but drill it so water can move through it and drop it in the tank.

I'll go acrylic though and stick with the true L shaped tank.

Still trying to figure out the logistics of it and might go bull nose as well.

A 3 foot tall piece of glass to clean and you want to make it curved as well?! Sucker for punishment I take it? That does however look super cool I'd love to see that happen.

What? You don't own a Scuba suit? Perfect opportunity for me to get one.

I'm starting to doubt your commitment to your fishes.

Yeah I hide all my VISA bills from the wife.

So Midwest Custom Aquariums is cheapest for the tank.

Fish Tanks Direct is cheapest for the tank, cabinet, and canopy but way more on shipping.

The above two were within $100 of one another for the tank.

Everyone else was $1000-$2000 higher.

MarkoD 08-24-2011 05:16 PM

What's the price you got?

$4200. $1100 for a cabinet and canopy to match.

The local guys in town wanted $6600 for a drop off tank without the bullnose end or $9000 with the bullnose.

MarkoD 08-24-2011 08:42 PM

Holy smokes that's a lot of money for a tank
