90G Upgrade Project

So Got a free 90g custom tank from a friend of mine, and finally got around to setting it up. Transfered all my livestock, corals and live rock from the 50g tank at my work. Also purchase 25lb of base rock to add to the take as well. So here are the pictures from about 1 week after the setup and transfer:

Heya Greg, I do love the look of a new setup, expect the new tank syndrome... Still not sure about leaving the back of the tank unpainted....Think I might be kicking my sell in the butt for not doing it, but the wife wanted it bare....that's what she said right??? lmao

If it is the one I think you are talking about, it is an encrusting green monti. I got it from Reefwars when he shut down one of his takes, and I think it originally Codfathers.... If that is the case, it has been encrusting for a while.

Jeff

Vitaminz 12-16-2011 01:20 AM

Was actually considering breaking the rock that it is encrusing, in order to free up some real estate in my tank...hummmm....decisions...decisions..decisions lol

Tank Update 2-13-2012

So it has been a weee bit since the last update. So I have finally hitched on the LED wagon and got a wicked deal on 2 LED lights. So I took down my 2x250MH and 2 T5 light and started in on mounting the LED so that it hangs. Had to re-wire the LED fixtures as the cords were a little frayed, not a big deal, fixed in an hour and 2 beers. They have been up and running over my tank since Friday, no bleaching or anything, so think it may be safe to put the old light up on the buy and sell section soon. Also installed some remote control RGB LED moon lights into the canopy. Now onto the picture:

All my SPS except for the Monti, all hated the LED and died.... They seem to do fine with the softies...So want my old light back...

LED Shelf Upgrade

So I decided instead of suspending my lights above the tank, That I would create a shelf for the units to sit on. Also added 2 Ecoray 60D to the Unbranded China LED Fixtures. Still have to do some cable management, so excuse the messy cords. Did this last night, so it was pretty late, when I was done.

badfish! 08-03-2012 05:00 PM

I've got 2 of the ecoray 60D's on my 90, how high do you have yours? It looks like they may not be high enough? I think mine are hanging about 17" above the top of my tank and I have one purple valida thats still alive, most of my other stuff hasnt survived (could be other reasons) but my softies love it. I've seen the lights mounted higher on other peoples tanks.

Vitaminz 08-03-2012 05:13 PM

From what I read, these Ecorays are suppose to be at least 3' above the tank, they are commercial lights. Mine are about 2' off the tank...I could be wrong. Most of my corals died when I put it too close, most of them seem happy with where it is at now. Only time will tell.

badfish! 08-03-2012 05:41 PM

Yeah, I'd like to get mine higher, but they are at the roof right now. Another reefer suggested getting some sort of plastic sheeting (like the ones covering florescent lighting) to try to "dim" the light, I've got a sheet at home, I just need to cut it and put it on the lights. I like the idea of lower energy and not having to replace bulbs, but I'm not entirely sure if I'm sold on these lights...

Vitaminz 08-03-2012 05:46 PM

Not totally sold on LED either...My MH setup before could grow anything, but now it seems like a struggle just to get things to survive, let alone grow....

badfish! 08-03-2012 06:23 PM

I've got the maxspect mazzara, and I like it better than the ecoray. I think the dimmable ecorays would be better

Vitaminz 08-03-2012 07:15 PM

Where did you get the maxspect mazzara from and how much did you pay, if you don't mind me asking?

Green monti

Jeff,
If you ever sell that rock, you better give me first shot.
I've regretted selling that so many times, that was my first
coral.
Good to see it still going strong(ish) after so many years.

The kids are the ones that love the damsels...Mutter butter...I am more into this for the corals, then the fish to be honest. And even more surprising it is a very calm tank, not much aggression at all.

Jeff

Vitaminz 04-18-2013 05:04 PM

So it comes with a heavy heart, that due to recent circumstances, I will be leaving this hobby. I will be taking an inventory tonight and posting stuff on the buy sell forums. Codfather, don't worry you will get first dibs on your coral, like I promised! lol

To everybody that I have meet in this hobby it has been great, learned alot and hope to be back one day soon!

Jeff

That sucks Jeff, sorry to hear. Would have prefered to get this coral back for another reason.
Let me know if there is anything I can do for you.
