bump

Aquattro 08-08-2011 09:57 PM

I can't vote since I haven't installed mine yet, but once I do, it will be on all night.

arash53 08-08-2011 10:01 PM

I ran all night for a week but I noticed the alge in mt tank and I thought it might be because of moonlights !

Doubt that a lot :) A single blue LED isn't going to grow algae.

i have a RKE with a moon light controller that similates the lunar cycle

megs_clark 08-09-2011 12:02 AM

I only have mine on for a few hours in the late evening and then a few hours in the early morning. I have mine on more because I like the look during the hours the main lights are not on.

monocus 08-09-2011 12:05 AM

moon lights

i have the vertex illumina-on a moon cycle

Lampshade 08-09-2011 01:20 AM

No moonlights.. my refugium pollutes my DT with light in the night time... so i guess that counts?

viperfish 08-09-2011 01:22 AM

Of course, isn't the moon on all night? LOL

RuGlu6 08-09-2011 01:33 AM

Only if the moon is out and there are no clouds LOL !

Brightwhite 08-09-2011 02:59 AM

Such a double ended candle question. I keep mine on all night cause it's easier.

Coleus 08-09-2011 04:37 AM

I notice that even my moon light is on, my fish is still very active so i turn it off when i go to bed

ALang 08-09-2011 03:57 PM

I have it on as a night light so I won't stumble off my stairs at night.

When I started leaving moonlights ON for first couple days the Corals tentacle was not out for feed at night but last not I saw my candycane tentacle was out but not my lubo and brian.

Ken 08-09-2011 07:16 PM

My led moon light is on 24/7

mayheim 08-10-2011 07:15 PM

Keep mine on for a couple of hours. I know its for effect...thinking that having some hours of darkness is also beneficial for corals..with those that tend to night feed..not really sure if the LED affects this or not

JTang 08-11-2011 02:30 AM

12 LED's turn On just before the actinic goes off. Turn Off in the AM - around 7am.

mayheim 08-11-2011 03:00 AM

Curious, why do you keep them on all night

I leave mine on all night so I can always have a peak at what's going on no matter when it is. Moon lights use hardly any power, my fish still disappear for the night with them on or off and corals behave the same either way as well. The corals that feed at night start doing so when photosynthesis stops and moon lights don't have enough power for corals to start photosynthesis. You may or may not get things to spawn with moon lights but the only reason I use them is just so I can see what goes on in my tank at night and it is very different than the day and just as interesting in its own right.

mayheim 08-11-2011 03:51 AM

I can buy that...Ill give it a whirl...I do also like the effect they give

whatcaneyedo 08-11-2011 01:09 PM

Like the RKE I use the lunar cycle option on my Apex. So no.

It's just 1 less thing to do.:twised:

Corbin 10-28-2011 02:21 AM

except when im sleeping.. they are always on, so off for like 6-7 hrs.

since i notice the fish are active a lot when i have them on. plus in real life the moon isnt out every day of the month. hence lunar cycle controllers, but i guess it aint nature in your tank..
