How much carbon is everyone using?
Wondering how much carbon is everyone using? Recommended amount from BRS calculator or more. BFS recommends I use just under 2 cup of carbon for my water volume.
I fill up my canister full on my BRS dual reactor.
I have half a TLF 150 reactor full of Chemi Pure Elite on a 30 Gallon setup... kinda overkill.
I've probably got 1 to 2 cups of BRS ROX or ChemiPure elite on my 40g at all times.
I use 1 cup ROX 0.8 per month on my 110 system. Hanna checker reads 0.
1 cup in 180 changed monthly.
i use half a cup with 2 tbsp of vanilla extract,1 egg yolk,a dash of ginger and a pinch of salt, i then bake at 300-325 degrees Fahrenheit for 35 mins or untill golden brown .....oh snap wrong site lol ;)

1 cup of fine lignite changed once a month for my 230gal system.
I don't use ROX, but use Kent Reef Carbon... Seems ok.
I use 1 litre in 2 - 500ml bags. I then alternating changing each bag at mid and end of month. |
Thanks guys for you input, I set-up my 2nd MR1 today with 2 cups of the Carbon I got from Eli. So I will see if that will help clear my water a bit more, only time will tell.
2 cups of ROX in a BRS reactor for the 225g and 1 cup of ROX in a TLF reactor for the 90g. Changed monthly.
(Brett; keep your probe away from my system as well) |
I have a pail of Kent Reef Carbon I'm finishing up, and then back to ROX. I use 250mL changed every 6 weeks on 90 gallon tank with 15 gallons in sump.
So from all the input it seems to be most people are running somewhat what is requimended for the size of there system. I must say that in just a day or so after adding the carbon my water is definitely clearer that it was before the carbon.
If there's that much of a difference, watch out that your corals don't get burned from the now more intense lighting.
