Ohhhhkay.......that has got to about the craziest idea I have ever heard!
|
The only thing that would have me shaking my head more is if this nut had the rock suspended stationary and THEN had the tank move around the stationary rock.
|
Unique.
All talk though. |

Ok, so I have been thinking about my "large Reef" tank, I can't get it till I get a house, but planing while I have the time I think is only right, and helpful
thats the first line or so in the post. i think this is just conjecture...lol these guys just like aquariums and engineering and are maybe a little bored..lol |
What happens to a fish when it gets in the way of the rock?

And to think of it... why wouldn't you just put a powerhead on an arm that gets moved around by that crane thing? That'd be immensely easier. (Still a stupid idea.) |
I pitty the fish sleeping in that tank!
|
About as useful as inventing a square wheel.
This guy gets the useless tit award. |
*snicker*
|
It reminds me of the fishless glorified frag tank on RC where the little colonies were perched on pillars... No thanks, I'll pass.
|
I think it hilarious how strong the opinions are on this here.
you would think if any group could appreciate this kind of exuberance when it comes to creating and trying something new in this hobby it would be this one... I've made some bad decisions in this hobby, tried some things that seemed stupid at the outset but were fun to try and made for a new way to get excited about things again. I have a basement FULL of spare parts, tanks, stands and aquaria related junk to prove it. |
We have reef tanks to bring the ocean to us, I cant remeber seeing rocks in the ocean move around on its own like that. I do not see why anyone would like to try that. Yes poor fish trying to live in that enviroment.
|
do you recall seeing siliconed glass walls?
powerheads? what about seeing corals from 2 completely different reef biotopes together? I wish this thread was a joke... |
The idea is pretty ridiculous. You've got to be more bored than he was to come in here and try and offer up his defense lol. I wouldn't call any of these opinions. It was posted for a chuckle but if you want to make the idea reality you've got my full support

Crazy idea alright and not really effective at the intended purpose of generating or supplementing high flow, but to label the chap an idiot is a bit harsh. It's the radical thinkers of this world that have brought us to where we are today, which actually may not be a good thing since we appear to be on a path of self destruction. In any case, the guy's a computer geek and obviously has some smarts. Although his idea may not suit the intended purpose, it could well spawn other ideas which could be usefully applied as solutions to other problems.
Check this out for another idea that may well have been formulated in the mind of a radical thinker, and it is real... http://www.marinabaysands.com/ |
Ya.....radical thinkers like the Ron Popeil and his spray on hair......or the inventor of the snuggie.
J/K.....I actually like my snuggie. |

is kind of silly, but the idea of moving the tank around hmm.. that would be much easier......
as for sleeping fish if the rocks move as one thats no problem as they are inside the moving mass and it would be the same to them as an alternating current. actualy there are several natural habatats that would act the same way. but way to expensive to be practical. Steve |
He was just brainstorming I think. Like he said there he is open to critics and as to why it would or wouldn't work.
Just like someone said here the best creations come from the most ubsurd ideas. One I could think of is the horseless carriage. Everyone thought ford was crazy to think that a carriage can run without a horse, yet we are all ride one everyday. |
Who thought Ford was crazy? If I was riding a horse and someone showed me a combustible engine, I would call that a good idea......it was a welcome and useful invention.
Now show me some plotter or robotics to move rocks in water and I have to ask why? What is the usefulness or benefit....if an invention is not useful or improves something what is the point. |
This is just ridiculous
|
You might not since you are already exeriencing the benefits of it but those who lived during his time did. Which is what I was driving at and why those here who disagreed with those who called the poster of that thread an idiot. And I do agree at one thing that was pointed out here that it might not work for what he intended it to but someone else might, or it might formulate an idea which would actually make sense from to use.
And besides you missed the whole point. The poster had an idea based on what he thought was creative. He asked others if it was a viable thought and based on the thread he never made it since the thread died the second day without any updates. But at least he was thinking outside the box, and I would hope he was not stubborn about doing it the way he originally thought. |
