Who is going to SEAMAX?

Wondering if the BC group are still going to have a "party room" for the Canreefers to meet in?
We are going with another couple and would love to meet some of you in person!! Also anyone going from Alberta??
Lenny.

Hey, I heard tell that the BC groups are looking at swags!!
But just happy to get to experience what it is all about, and to possibly meet some Canreefers.
BTW, we'll have our little maple leaf on! So say hello when you see us!

Hey all, I just wanted to chime in here regarding the Seamax tradeshow. O.C. was going to organize a group to go down but due to some logistics and schedule conflicts we couldn't make it happen. I will be down and have booked myself a room so I will see you all there. I will be hanging out with Hikari at their booth to meet everyone.

Regarding the swag bags, I have spoken to a few vendors that are willing to offer out some prizes but the issue that we will encounter is that the goods will need to be declared at customs and there may or may not be possible duty charges applied to the prizes once declared. So, I am entertaining the idea of taking people's contact info at the trade show and afterwards ship the goods on the Canadian side so that there won't be any custom clearance issues at all.

Thanks and looking forward to meeting you at the show.

Cheers,

Paul

Keep the replies coming!
Love to know who will be there!

Well if its dry goods and you are in the USA for a few days then you can bring it back under your personal allouance based on the length of your stay. I cant remember the exact amount but its a few hundred bucks even for 48 hours which easily covers swag.

Good idea Paul for those that may decide to do some shopping while they are in Seattle.

For all the Canadian that visit the Reef Wholesale booth we can have a sign up for swag and our Samples can just be shipped out to your local store with their next order after the show.
If you decide to purchase anything at the show special prices from the the US store that we have in our booth, again we could just ship this out to you from Canada.

ALang 07-09-2011 03:10 AM

Great offer, thank you. Hopefully we will see you at the booth.

Just over a week before SEAMAX, should be a good time.

arash53 07-13-2011 08:01 PM

Hi Guys,

I have couple questions ,

Is it possible to buy tickets at SEAMAX or I should by them online?
Is it free for kids or they need tickets as well?

Thanks
Arash

I think this will help. See y'all there.

We just arrived in Seattle late last night and I was shocked at how cool it is here.
Trina and I just left the heat wave in Onterrible and had to turn on the heater in the car when we arrived here in Seattle! It didnt stay on long, but after nearly a month in Indo and 120 degree F temps in Onterrible, the 50 degree F was a bit cool for us :)

Glad to see a bunch of people are coming though!

For everyone attending, come and pick up a business card from either Trina or myself and we will honnour SeaMax Trade special show pricing through one of our dealers right here in Canada!

Trade show special pricing will not be posted, but there will be some great deals available through the US shop Age Of Aquariums, that will be in our booth at the trade show so be sure to stop by.

And for everyone that attends my presentation on keeping Non-Photo Synthetic corals, you will be eligible for some sweet discounts on the Fauna Marin foods that are required to keep these amazing corals alive.

As we just got back from indo, we will not be able to bring our amazing corals to the show BUT pick up one of our cards and you will be eligible for a 10% discount on some of our signature pieces from a Canadian dealer such as:

Seamax

The selection and prices at seamax were incredible. Seemed like all the vendors had a firesale on! I guess the great weather hampered the turnout. Well worth the trip.

msjboy 07-25-2011 07:20 AM

What kinda prices were there.?

Just curiuos, what kinda deals did they have there?

Maybe next year, if it returns , might consider attending.

There were some good deals on frags and such on Sunday, but as a Canadian it did not matter, we cant bring them home. There was some nice swag being passed out, so that was nice. Overall it was ok.

christyf5 07-25-2011 05:06 PM

Lots of nice corals and some truly gorgeous clams but as we couldn't bring them home it was hard to get too excited about them. The show was pretty good, I was kind of surprised at the drygoods prices, we've got it pretty good here. I didn't see any really good deals but then I wasn't really looking for any big ticket items.

pinhead 07-25-2011 07:22 PM

I enjoyed it and hope they run it again.

Stopped in on a few talks on Sunday and was also able to see the twin-arc 10000/ 20000 MH bulbs running - anyone using these? I was also given a litre of NPX Pellets by the Two Little Fishes people so I am pretty happy.

If you were able to bring things back with a 48 hour stay, the raffle was a good deal. I didn't see anyone buying tickets so your chances of winning was pretty good. Had quite a few things available like RO/DI units and ballasts.

By late afternoon the frags were almost being given away as the vendors did not want to ship them back. Buy one get one free on most things. 15 polyps of true Red people Eaters for $5 or 6 frags of closed up Zoas for $5. You wouldn't know what you were getting but they had a lot of beautiful stuff. As I was leaving, I even heard negotiations for one whole tank of left over frags at around $100.

Borderjumper 07-25-2011 07:35 PM

I was there Saturday and quite enjoyed it. I was also surprised that the dry goods didn't seem any cheaper than we can buy them locally. There were some nice corals there, but with a few exceptions didn't see anything I don't have or couldn't have if I wanted locally.

All the free samples were awesome.. One booth tho that I won't name tried to sell me samples for 3$ each.. These were clearly marked samples, so that kinda put me off.

I looked for Paul there, to shake his hand, but didn't see him anywhere. Saw Christy and Gareth which was wicked.

All in all had a great couple of days.. We were #14 standby on the Coho, and whoopee we got on!!

Customs in Victoria was a bitch, I think they had a hard time believing we went all the way to Seattle for one day to just go to an aquarium show.. Obviously they don't understand reefing!

ALang 07-25-2011 08:04 PM

Had a great great time!
We met a few Reefers staying at the Marriott, the drinks were flowing pretty freely, and they pretty loud by the time we left the party. Met and had pics taken with Mark Callahan ,"Mr. SaltwaterTanks", who was also staying there, he was very nice and we had a great time talking extensively with him. Nice people all around.
The show was a bit small, but for the first time around, and only $20-25 admission fee, it wasn't too bad. Hope that next year, more people will attend so they can have a bigger/better show.
Lots of products, dry goods, equipments (Lights predominantly LEDs, skimmers, pumps, power heads) and one even had all the good reef-keeping books for sale. Didn't exactly notice any prices to have a good comparison, but I did bought a Salifert Mag test kit for $26 (Usually ~$50 to order on line).
The guys at the Seachem booth were excellent to talk to, and they loaded us up with several Tee-shirts, lots of food and full-sized products, so we were pretty loaded down and happy.
At the Hydor booth, they gave me two new impellers for the old Hydor 4 power heads that I had trouble finding replacement for, for free!
Lots of corals: zoas, acans, chalices, clams, ricordias, LPSs and SPSs galore. Shame we couldn't take any back, as the prices were good and they were practically giving them away at the end of Sunday.
Had a chance to meet Tparsons and PFoster, both wonderful people to chat with. Wish we had known who was who so we could have had a chance to say hello to all, but maybe next time we can all wear our fishy tee-shirts (that's how most of them found us at the bar) to identify who we are...
The weather was excellent for the 4 days that we were in Seattle. Had a great time going there with sgreen. Pics to follow if Jim has the time... but Big Valley will be this weekend, so maybe not...
Cheers. Lenny.
