Red Sea Max raffle???
Hey guys, it been a while i know, and after sitting on my tank for a few months i have decided to have a possible raffle for it if there is enought interest.
The pirize: A 1st gen RSM with a 4xT5 fixture and regular hood with a phosban reactor and a fluval canister. All is fully functional It would be open to any other cities in Canada as long as you have a way to get it to your Destination. The price would be $15 a ticket and a raffle would be held on a weekend. I will have recorded everyones name and info of the ticket and contact them. So let me know what you guys think, if not enough interest ill just sell it whole. |

if there is any interest pls respond to this post.
|
Okay, I'll play! It's a creative idea and I try to support them whenever I can.
|
I'll go for it. What is it for? A charity of some sort?
|
Just a curious way to sell it? It seems interesting enough, is the tank empty currently?
|
Neat idea but it's not legal in Canada unless you're a registered charitable organization...better check it out before you land yourself in a legal hot bed.
|
its just a my way of selling it, it doesnt have to be a raffle per se but none the less there will be a winner in the end of the day
|
How will the draw process work?
How will a winner be chosen sans bias? |

the raffle would work like this;
people buy as many tickets as they want, i keep tickets with the same number as they were bought, for every ticket i record who the ticket buyer details are. I leave it open for a month. On a weekend i invite people over to my house for the draw and i take a ticket out of a bucket or box and if the winner is at my house they can take it then or at a time that works for both of us or if they are not present i will search the ticket number in my book and contact the person directly, if there is no response in 2 weeks i will pull another ticket and contact the winner, with spectators |

You think so...It's quite simply all about CYA (Cover Your A$$), this is being posted on an open, public forum. The rules for these events are regulated povincially so IME it's better to make sure you are aware of the laws of the land before moving foward. http://www.pssg.gov.bc.ca/gaming/licences/index.htm You can call it whatever you want but either way it is still legally considered a game of chance. |

LOL, Take it for what it's worth, from my own experience. A few years back I skipped a step and had to deal with the local authorities as the president of a local not for profit org. (we also had an open BB) It turned ugly really fast, I had the local authorities threaten to take legal action against me personally...Sorry if you feel I was preaching, it wasn't meant as such. This is only friendly FYI to hopefully save someone the possible grief. That is all. |

Beside if this is a game of change just like betting you buddy a case of beer on the hockey game, you would say you need a permit as well. Where were you when another reefer here did the same thing last year? Ken @ Blue World was ok with selling the tickets at the store for it and you would think if it was illegal to do so Ken would have never done it. |
Quote:
Really,.. please, not even close. Ken was donating the money to a charitable org. and knowing Ken I'm pretty sure he took the proper steps, he was even willing to issue a taxable receipt. This proposed event/raffle is for personal gain, completely different. Either way, I really don't care what he does with his raffle, as I stated before, this was only FYI as a friendly word of caution, period. |

If someone does, we now know who.... |
Whatever, ...
|
again this is just a thought , nothing set in stone. Just looking if there is any interest in this? so if there is any interest let me know

I say if you have the interest do it kid, don't worry about all the BS about it being illegal, it's crap seriously. If you were local I would take a couple spots. |
that is a great idea grizz, thats what i might just do, and btw if you had a way of getting the tank to ur location you could buy tickets from me through paypal when i start geting things rolling.
|
Maybe I'll be bringing grizz this rsm instead of the 60 gallon he wants in June ;p
|
lol may be :P

Whatever, Just because you thinks it all kewl doesn't mean it's legal or good advice to being giving someone. Like I said before, I really don't give a flying f@C* what anyone does but I'm certainly not condoning it as good practice. No different than telling someone it's probably not a good idea to put 10 purple tangs in a 20 gal tank... |
It's illegal to walk outside with all the laws we have
Hell let the kid make some money, we all know how hard it was at his age. If he makes a few extra bucks who cares |

DUDE you need to chill, I just read everything on the link you provided and you are so miss informed it's not even funny. The whole licensing thing only pertains to groups or organization that earns revenue over and above the prize values. Directly from the link you provided. " If your group or organization is planning to hold a gaming event for the purpose of raising funds to benefit the broader community or a third party, you must apply for either a Class A, B or D gaming event licence. " I even went one step further today to check this out. I had a meeting to go to at Stoney Nakota Resort & Casino in regards to Alberta Ride For Sight event that will be taking place there again this year. I asked the head admin about this & there is no license required for as small of a thing as this. So in words you might understand what TheKid wants to do is not breaking an laws & you are the one giving bad advise not me. You have a really bad way of dealing with being told that you are incorrect with your whole " I really don't give a flying f@C* " and I really don't appreciate it directed at me. If you don't give a flying f@C* then why do you continue to post in this thread. Delete you subscription and don't return to this thread. As zoom one else stated you must have nothing but time on your hands. Quote:

Removed, respectively ask by TheKid & granted out of respect.
|
leah pls remove your comment as well, out of respect for my thread and this forum.
all the best, Stefan |

You can't sell tickets for any game of chance unless you are licensed...raffles lotteries or otherwise. Telling me to stay out,...your're the one who keeps dragging me back into this. |
Quote:
Now enough is enough, post some real proof stating that you can't legally do what TheKid and others have done or thinking of doing & I will stand corrected. |

First link pertains to grants and doesn't apply, second link pertains to groups or organizations earning profit as a result of a raffle over and above the expenses of doing the raffle including prizes.

Laws like this are placed when a large amount of profit on a raffle can be made (stampede lotto for instance). In thekid's case, if this idea actually takes off he might make a little bit extra, he could also loss alot if the interest isn't there. If he sets a date for the draw he should stick with it, even if 2 people are the only ones involved. |

Church...they fall into a whole different cat. and are licensed. ... The lottery TheKid is proposing would require a class D license in BC being under $5000...there is also a whole more to it being a minor,... I'm not going to sit here and spell it all out... The only point I was initially making that if thekid was planning on going forward with any of this, he may want to spend the time and do some research before going forward. without sounding like a broken record, do what ever you want, put those 10 tangs in that small tank, I don't care. . |
Man did this thread turn to chit. Interesting. I'm still in for buying a couple of tickets. So when you take up residence in Hope/Aggasiz i'll get my wife to make you a cake with a file in it.
|
Yes yes it has & I will supply the files
