Gas prices!!! Getting out of hand, read this e-mail I got & pass on
I don't know about you but I am sick & tired of the gas prices. In my line of work I can't avoid or decrese my fuel requirements but I know I will be taking steps to not waste fuel ether.
I received this e-mail and I must say it does make some sense. Worth Considering.......... * * THIS IS NOT THE 'DON'T BUY' GAS FOR ONE DAY, BUT IT WILL SHOW YOU HOW WE CAN GET GAS BACK DOWN TO $1.00 PER LITRE. This was sent by a retired Coca Cola executive. It came from one of his engineer buddies who retired from Halliburton. If you are tired of the gas prices going up AND they will continue to rise this summer, take time to read this please. Phillip Hollsworth offered this good idea. This makes MUCH MORE SENSE than the "don't buy gas on a certain day" campaign that was going around last April or May! It's worth your consideration. Join the resistance!!!! I hear we are going to hit close to $ 1.50 a litre by this summer and it might go higher!! Want gasoline prices to come down? We need to take some intelligent, united action. The oil companies just laughed at that because they knew we wouldn't continue to "hurt" ourselves by refusing to buy gas .. It was more of an inconvenience to us than it was a problem for them. BUT, whoever thought of this idea, has come up with a plan that can Really work. Please read on and join with us! By now you're probably thinking gasoline priced at about $.99 is super cheap. Me too! It is currently $1.29 at SUNOCO and ESSO for regular unleaded in Hamilton and Ottawa and climbing every week. Now that the oil companies and the OPEC nations have conditioned us to think that the cost of a gallon of gas is CHEAP at $.87 to .99, we need to take aggressive action to teach them that BUYERS control the marketplace..not sellers. With the price of gasoline going up more each day, we consumers need to take action. The only way we are going to see the price of gas come down is if we hit someone in the pocketbook by not purchasing their gas! And, we can do that WITHOUT hurting* ourselves. How? Since we all rely on our cars, we can't just stop buying gas. But we CAN have an impact on gas prices if we all act together to force a price war. Here's the idea: For the rest of this year, DON'T purchase ANY gasoline from the two biggest companies (which now are one), SUNOCO(PETRO CANADA ) and ESSO. If they are not selling any gas, they will be inclined to reduce their prices. If they reduce their prices, the other companies will have to follow suit. But to have an impact, we need to reach literally millions of SUNOCO(PETRO CANADA ) and ESSO gas buyers. It's really simple to do! Now, don't wimp out on me at this point...keep reading and I'll explain how simple it is to reach millions of people!! I am sending this note to 30 people. If each of us send it to at least ten more (30 x 10 = 300) ... and those 300 send it to at least ten more (300 x 10 = 3,000)... and so on, by the time the message reaches the sixth group of people, we will have reached over THREE MILLION consumers . If those three million get excited and pass this on to ten friends each, then 30 million people will have been contacted! If it goes one level further, you guessed it..... THREE HUNDRED MILLION PEOPLE!!! Again, all you have to do is send this to 10 people. That's all! (If you don't understand how we can reach 300 million and all you have to do is send this to 10 people....Well, let's face it, you just aren't a mathematician But I am .. so trust me on this one. How long would all that take? If each of us sends this e-mail out to ten more people within one day of receipt, all 300 MILLION people could conceivably be contacted within the next 8 days! I'll bet you didn't think you and I had that much potential, did you! Acting together we can make a difference. If this makes sense to you, please pass this message on. I suggest that we not buy from SUNOCO(PETRO CANADA )/ESSO UNTIL THEY LOWER THEIR PRICES TO THE $.79 RANGE AND KEEP THEM DOWN. It can work. |
I got this e-mail a month ago and have been doing just that, come on all lets try it
|
I dont buy from those companies anyway but this will never work.
Too many oilfield companies use petro for their fuel and they use more diesel and gas than all of us put together. |
i havent used esso or petro for over a year now
|
I dont believe there will be a substanial impact for this reason;
all gasoline companies make gasoline for each other. So if there is a petro canada refinery thats local to you - chances are that they are making gas for Esso/Canadian Tire/Loblaws/Shell/etc for every station in a 100KM radius. They custom blend each batch so Esso users get their type of fuel, shell gets theirs, etc. There are slight differences and propietary additives after all. But they all come out the closest refineries. <<GOD I CANT SPELL>>. We need to convince our government to regulate the price of fuel and start reducing our need for fuel and fuel byproducts (ie plastic) - I know I know easier said then done but fuel is a limited resource and with a global economy all it means is that we dont want to pay what multi national corps want for fuel then somebody else will. Argentina nationalized their oil and fuel and its pennies a gallon there. Why on earth are we sending our stuff (oil sands) to the states so we can just buy it back from them?!?! Government does a lot of short term thinking because they are only in power for 4 years so they make lots of expensive short term decisions to buy votes. |
This same advice has been offered every year for the last decade every time gas prices go up. I'll continue to fill up where it's convenient.
|
Because supply and demand have no influence over the price of commodities?
Most welders I know don't mind high fuel prices. It means they have jobs to go to. |
The thing people have to ask is who sets the gas price. If you start at the service station and work your way up the food chain. To my knowledge nobody has tried this
|
Still gets me that the price goes up for produce sitting in the storage tank based on a future delivery price. I could swallow the money grab easier if the price only went up after the tanker truck doing the fill drove away.
|
A refinery must keep running so they buy futures as a hedge to ensure a supply and at a predictable price. For a refinery were to buy on a month to month basis on the spot market is suicide. I suspect the price adjustments occur on the business side, the refinery just outputs at price X. It is true that smaller companies buy there gas form the refineries of the bigger companies. The difference is the additives. Did anybody notice the sign on CDN tire gas..."may contain up to 10% methanol"...and this is not just a winter thing...they use butane for that

Well.
There goes my random fish store hopping just for fun and a look-see. |
All you really need to do is to start saving money. Do not spend it on any luxuries, such as entertainment and frankly reef tanks. Once companies are not generating enough revenue, and begin to lay off people, our government will start to notice and will be forced to do something.
Its really the only way for all of this to work. Just look at what happened to the US in 2008. We are going down this road. SAVE YOUR MONEY BEFORE YOU DONT HAVE ANY. |
On nice days, both summer and winter I ride my bicycle to work. Saves a bundle on gas, and I feel energized when I arrive . When I drive I feel sluggish and head straight to the coffee pot. Travel time is pretty close sometimes much faster by bike, if traffic is backed up from a train.

heh all i saw was time travel is faster by bike....good to know!

Grizz - OCC made a bike for a large welding company a few years ago that towed a welder and a helmet incorporated with the risers. put some chains on the tire and you got yourself an all weather welding crotch rocket. |
Yes they did, OCC Miller bike but there welder runs on 220v and you would need one hell of an extention cord when your in the bush in the middle of no where. Also still need a cutting torch, grinders, hand tool and the list goes on. The Miller bike is a cool toy but not workable.
|
ginder - use your teeth
hand tools - i believe the fists of a man nicknamed Grizz should suffice cutting torch - lighter and a can of hair or bug spray 220v - harness the power of the sun |
If it was only that easy :twised: and I got the name for my bad attitude / temper. :twised::twised::twised:
