I was completing a deco stop off the coast of Vancouver Island and had a Gray Whale cruise along right by us. At first I thought it was 2 sea lions but then as it got closer I realised that it was his upper and lower jaw. As he went by he almost hit my dive buddy's head with his 6 ft. pectoral fin. I reached out to touch him but he was just out of arms reach. His eyeball was bigger than a softball (kind of cool the way it was rolling around watching us as he swam by). I used to take a camera with on most dives but I left it at home this dive. Real bummer.

A moment like that is the reason to spend countless dive hours seeing nothing spectacular. You have to get in position often enough and one day.....
