Hey I came across this coral and wasn't sure what type it was :)

It does looks like anthelia, the only thing is anthelia doesn't grow from tube like hard skeleton. Looking at the base I would say organ pipe coral.
May be anthelia took over dead skeleton?Interested to see what everyone else thinks. |
Wow Wes I think you might be right! It certainly does look like some type of Anthelia
MWS Yeah I wondered about the pipe structure aswell... Its also in the shape of a ball... |
Nope pipe organ coral for sure look at the skeleton....

Definitely Pipe Organ. No question.

That is definitely a Pipe Organ, and one of my favourite LPS. I have 3 Pipe Organs. One has long polyps like that and is similarly colored, the other two are short polyped and white from Walt Smith.

Hmmmm.... Mindy you might become my favorite out of town reefer. I'll be through Toon Town this summer  HAHAHHA! |
Hahaha! Favourite out of town reefer...that's hilarious. I'll be in Edmonton in a few hours. Going to stop by Blue World, Red Coral, and maybe that new one I can't think of the name...
They aren't bleached. White ones exist, and they are VERY white. I think these photos were taken with just actinics on so the pic isn't very good, but they are pure white. The one is called "Daisy" and has green centers, but no pic right now. http://i85.photobucket.com/albums/k4...2/IMG_0050.jpg |

that last coral is actually a clove polyp coral and a pipe organ is technically a softy not an lps

Pipe Organ has an obvious hard skeleton. I have not found anywhere that calls it a softy. It is always classified as hard coral..... so.... |
