problem with xenia

Got home from work today and all me xenia are shrivled up and look dead :frown: . I tested the water yesterday morning and did a water change yesterday. I'm going to test the water now and see where it is at. Any ideas or suggestions. Could any of the new corals I added yesterday done this? I added a brain coral, tree, polyps.

Mine did this for about a week or more.. and now they are fine and spreading like a disease.. All that happened is one day I brushed against them while moving stuff and boom.. shriveled and droopy like they are dieing..

martym 01-12-2004 11:56 PM

But it is all over the tank. Not just one. The water tested fine. I will just keep an eye on the rest of the tank and see what it does. Thanks Chad.

I'm guessing the newly fragged softies released a bit of toxin's or chemicals into your water. Run some carbon to absorb what's in your water and you should be fine.

Thanks Jack, I'll do that. I noticed that the small heater that I used to heat my water for the changed leaked, there was water in the tube. Is it possible that that would put electrical current into the water? My toad stool doesn't look that good either.

Could be. You can only guess.

My Xenia and Anthelia do that often, recover in a day or two sometimes 3 or 4, then they grow like hell... don't know what causes it.

water in a heater , just showing how good it would be to have a gfi .

Silverfish 01-13-2004 04:25 AM

xenia act weird when one of them gets stressed... all the others in the tank seem to do the same IME. even when they are on the other side of the tank they will shrivel up.

Thanks for the replies. I guess I'll take the wait and see approach.

Get rid of that heater if you haven't already  Unplut it first before removing!

BCOrchidGuy 01-14-2004 12:41 AM

Beverly why do you suggest he get rid of the heater?

Cuz apparently there is water in it.. meaning it could / is leaking voltage into the tank.. stick your hand in and one heck of a jolt..

The heater was a cheap one from Walmart. It was the first time I used it. It is going back. I only bought it to heat the water before putting it in the tank. I would not put a cheap one in to my tank just for that reason. All the corals aren't looking that good tonight. If things don't look better by tomorrow night I guess I'll do a mojor water change. How much should I do? I normally do 10g ever 2 weeks. It is a 75g tank.

BCOrchidGuy 01-14-2004 02:45 AM

Marty, PM me I've got a ebo jager you can use until you get a better heater.
