bad hole in the head to start not sure but looks like fungus on the back side

Navarchus 03-25-2011 05:28 PM

From his description, look like holes in the head and tail base.
It is spreading to other fish as well.
We made sure there is no electricity running tin the water; he made a fresh water dip with now special results, and a cooper treatment.
From his description I learn that these tiny holes look like someone drilled the fish.

Head and lateral line erosion (HLLE). Fresh water dips and copper will not help. Test the water and make sure it's diet is high quality and varied. Make sure it is being fed nori, this often helps.

that’s what I told the dude, he claims he gives nuri on a regular base and keep his tank not over crowded and in good water conditions. I wonder if it my be caused by something else?

I can't ID the disease. I really don't know.

However, if it is HLLE then take a look at the carbon he is running on his system. There is some speculation that HLLE may be associated with Carbon. Check whether it was recently replaced, or never replaced, or poor quality, etc?

Just a thought...

+1 on the carbon

try dosing the tank with melafix - its an antibacterial, and tends to help clear up wounds imo. just make sure you use melafix and NOT pimafix, if you do!

Navarchus 03-26-2011 02:36 PM

Dosent your skimmer goes crazzzzzzy with this stuff in tha system?

teemee 03-26-2011 02:54 PM

crazy - that's an understatement :)
sorry - if you use melafix, turn off the skimmer for a day!

Leave the skimmer on - just take the cup off and let it overflow. High oxygen levels are important, especially when medicating.

I seen your fish photos. I think that it is very sick and unhealthy. It is better to be feed to the fish. I like to know about these fish that How much it's weight. You must have a good proportionality of salt in water.Check it as fast as.
