First time I have seen Elegance sold by the mouth, you don't happen to mean Aussie Duncans by any chance?

no, not duncans but real aussie elegance... in the US they been fragging bubble, elegance, wall hammers/ frogspawns, lobos, open brain and many many corals before we even new it happened... this gives nature a chance to grow... for us to share our livestock without destroying earth's reefs... it's a risky factor but it's worth the result...

Hope the fragging goes ok.

I "heard" that fragging things like elegance and bubbles, etc can potentially kill the coral.

Those who receive frags... an update would be nice.

Aquaria 03-13-2011 06:16 PM

I used to love bubbles and was interested in fragging them and yes it is very hard And has the potential to kill the coral but If done right its no harm. With bubbles u have to cutt the Skeleton without cutting flesh then slowly with a wedge slit it over a 2 week period if done right the bubble splits on it's own so if elegance has the same type skele I assume the process is similar

Sorry for the hijack but this is a favorite subject of mine so I thought I'd butt in. I found it took a very long time for an elegance to heal completely. I've cut up trachyphyllia before and within a few weeks the cut area has completely closed up. With the elegance, it took two or more months for the cuts to heal over. However the trachyphyllia I've been cutting has been in my system much longer than the elegance. http://www.canreef.com/vbulletin/sho...egance+project

not a problem, thx, it's good to share info and knowledge, not to many hobbiest have knowledge and are willing to take this risk... nice to know i'm not the first... i've actually seen it done on other sites in US... i bought my first aussie elegance frag which had only one centimeter bone structure with one mouth in Jan 2011... now it grew and has two mouths... so i'm pretty happy and gave me this idea....

a few days later and my clown dove right in.

My Clown ignored it , I have it for three days now !

I glued it on my rock is it OK or I should detach it and place it on sand? it is attached to the rock and its kinda hard to detach it.

Rogue951 03-17-2011 10:25 PM

I'm just too lazy to attach it to rock. I like it in the sand. lots of room.
Plus my tank is a 40G breeder so I don't have so much height to work with.

arash53 03-17-2011 10:34 PM

But in the reef websites say the placement for Elegance Coral is bottom on the sand !
I just wonder it damages when it grows if I leave it where it is!

Reefdigger 03-26-2011 12:47 PM

only two piece three mouth left... gotta let the mother heal for a while... everyone that had pick it up are doing great...thx, all

kenman999 03-26-2011 01:08 PM

I watched this video over a year ago and this guy Eric Borneman shows you how to frag corals and he does and says that elegance corals can be done. I think its cool, but some corals do well when they are fragged and some are very slow at recovering. This video is very interesting.

Just wait and the video will come up once you go to the website.

Reefdigger 04-04-2011 03:21 AM
