Hi let me re introduce myself

I used to be Quagmire, that was 3 or 4 years ago. Due to moving around Ive had my tanks shut down during the time Ive been off the board.
So the other day I noticed one of my little 25g tanks, and well you know how it works. It kept nagging at me, its only a small tank, whats the big deal, if I set up a nano, Ive already got most of the equipment. So I dug around some of my boxes, and found the fish stuff, opened it up and immediately thought, what is all this crap? I didn't realize how much fish stuff I never threw away. So lets see, I have lights..check, power heads..check, liverock.. nope, lots of dead rock. OK so if I pick up a bag of sand and 10lbs of liverock , mix it with the dead stuff, it should all work out in time. Off to Golds I go, OK forgot he's closed on Thursday. No problem, there are 3 more stores I can hit on this end of town. But first lets check the computer. Prodibio whats that? looks promising, lets see who sells it. Off I go to the fish store thats about as far on the other side of town as you can get. Nice guy at Red Coral. Shopped around at 3 different stores. got home with what I remembered. And looked deeper in the closet to get the tank stand and spotted the 40g cube. Hmm wonder if my halides still work? OK so I have my halides and its a waste to let them sit in the closet, so lets see, 40g cube ...check, power heads...check, live rock... sort of, stand and , well I don't see any cracks, so also a sump. OHH and whats that my old trusty Euro reef skimmer, best bang for the buck skimmer ever made
Picked up the other odds and ends today along with more LR, and everything I forgot yesterday. Got everything set up proper and now I can look at my first tank in at least 3 yrs. Not much to look at yet but it has promise. It will also be my Prodibio test tank.

Thanks, everything is pretty much under control, nothings died yet. That's the nice thing about an empty tank. BTW I'm a recovering reefaholic, who just fell off the wagon

Hey my favorite mod, thanks Christy, good to see you're still around. I see Snappy's still around also, I'm going to have to get over to his place for some frag shopping.

Welcome back
Nice start so far

So you use an overflow box with no problems? I need to use one but fear it.

lockrookie 03-13-2011 12:35 AM

dont know you im relatively new to the hobby.... myself just over a year old lol... but already looks like a great systemand i look forward to seeing it grow.

Thanks DCDN
Kobelka, no problems with the overflow box. Ive heard rumors of the CPR box losing the siphon, but this one is made by Eshopps, it works on the same principal, but is designed a bit different. So far it works flawlessly.

A couple shots of the overflow

I think its the riser tube that's different. I could be wrong though, Ive never owned a CPR unit .

Lockroookie, I can't believe how much I forgot, somethings are coming back as I go along. But others I'm relearning by mistake again. That along with technical advancements make me sort of a rookie again too. Hoping I don't forget something important, cause I look forward to getting some pics along the way.

that overflow box mimics my lifereef overflow box....i wish i could have drilled my 90 but the tank is tempered thus why i used the overflow box and if yours runs on the same principal you will have no issues it never loses a syphon.

just as a hint be careful cleaning the syphon tube i blew out oneof mine with a pipe cleaner gismo luckily it crazy glued ok but they are pricey to replace good to have a backup on hand of any sort original or made upjust in case.
