OscarMeyer's RSM 130D Illumina Powered

start out fresh water, got hooked into salt and have been there ever since, im almost a year into it now with the rsm, many of the things i did buy i bought big because i knew at some point i was going to upgrade. ( that build thread is to come and will be way more detailed then this one )

Just wanted to track the progress of the tank, see how everything turns outs, and with my final plans being to convert the tank back into a strictly AIO and keep it super simple, probably as a gift for my mother, because the rest of the equipment will be going into my 90 gal build ;)

Your macros are really interesting! What did you do to get your algae under control?

OscarMeyer 02-09-2011 08:32 PM

Thanks!

I just Added the cuc, and any algae that i was able to pull off with my fingers I did, and if any piece of rock was easily removable i took it out and scrubbed the algae off, after doing that the cuc took over and it was under control within the month.

Excuse the Shoddy Camera work, i am no photographer  New FTS will be up today!

fishytime 03-01-2011 12:35 AM

great macros shots....love the yasha/pistol combo and the shot of the porcelain is killer!....*thinks "I need a new camera too"*

Youngster Dan 03-01-2011 07:09 AM

wow, great photos. You've got some skills.

OscarMeyer 03-02-2011 05:57 PM

Thanks for the Comments!

Sorry about the no new FTS, i had heard problems about the Marineland stealth pro heaters, so i took the opportunity and switched it out, and literally just after i did that, I got a massive shock, so the new heater i bought to hopefully save myself from a shock actually ended up shocking me! the Marineland's back in but I'm planning on changing that very shortly

Anyone know where i could get a good reliable heater? i was thinking Won brother heater? or i might just get a ranco stage 2, not to sure yet.

Should have some new shots later today!

fishytime 03-02-2011 09:24 PM

just went through your shots again.....just a heads up, in case you didnt know.....bumble bee snails arnt reef safe....they are predatory towards other snails:wink:

OscarMeyer 03-02-2011 11:34 PM

They are not 100% reef safe. They are known to eat zoas and other snails.

Your tank is really doing well. Nice work.

DCDN 03-09-2011 05:59 AM

I'm just wondering if thats a pair of harlequin shrimp in one of the pics. Wondering how they're doing in a reef system as I've only really seen them in species tanks.

Interesting, i haven't notice any problems with my zoas, but it does explain a few snail deaths.

I wish they were a pair, unfortunately they are both males, I'm currently looking for a female, and hopefully she will pair with one of the males, when i do get her.

As for how they are interacting in a reef tank compared to a species tank, I've had no problems, I've heard that they a pretty shy creature, and tend to hide alot, but my 2 seem to stay out in the open quite a bit, even catching some waves as the mp10 kicks up, they remind me of little ninjas as they tuck they're arms into there body to dive to the sand! (I'll see if i can grab a video of them doing this)

OscarMeyer 04-04-2011 05:04 AM

Well I haven't updated in a while so i thought i should do that

I've also been reading alot of threads about how people are kind of having issues with the Vertex Illumina light, saying that after it was added to the system they saw great improvements, and then all of a sudden the system crashed, or saw detrimental effects on the system.
I just want to say ive had my light for 5 months now and has been one of the best investments i have ever made!

Im going to do my best to try and update this more along with some more growth shots.
