Light Cycle

Just looking to see what the most popular light cycle is.

I am running:

1 hr blues (dawn)
7hrs Full light
1.5 hrs blues (dusk)

Looking to see what has worked for others.

PoonTang 01-30-2011 10:33 PM

I run my MH for 10 hours and instead of actinics I run 50/50 PCs for dawn and dusk. The PCs are run from the seasonal cycle of my Apex so they run for 1- 11/2 hours before and after the MH.

bignose 01-30-2011 10:38 PM

1.5hrs dawn
8hrs daylight
1.5hrs dusk

Just wondering... what are you growing in your tank? Have you noticed any slowing of growth with only 5 hours full spectrum?

burrows14 01-30-2011 11:01 PM

I have nothing but SPS in my tank. I am running a 6x54w Ati powermodule and am getting great growth a PE. I read somewhere that sometime less is more when it comes to lighting and I have been very pleased with how my tank has responded to it. I will try to find the article.

BlueTang<3 01-30-2011 11:06 PM

1.5 hrs leds 1 hr actinic 11 hrs full lights 1 hr actinic 1 hr leds.

silentcivilian 01-31-2011 12:45 AM

I run a 2hours dawn, 5hours daylight and 2 hours dusk... and I suddenly feel like im not giving my tank enough light reading these numbers...

Aquattro 01-31-2011 12:50 AM

Dawn/dusk actinic on at 8am, off at 12:00 am. Halides on from 1:30pm to 9:00pm.

Marmot74 01-31-2011 02:26 AM

3 Hours Moonlight (6am-9am)
3 Hours T5 (9am-12pm)
6 Hours T5 & MH (12pm-6pm)
3 Hours T5 (6pm-9pm)
3 Hours Moonlight (9pm-12am)
6 Hours Total Darkness (12am-6am)

Seems to work well for and gives lots of different viewing modes :)

cycle

still playing with my vortex-plan on dusk and dawn and settings as they would have in indonesia

BC564 01-31-2011 07:13 PM

6 hours full light.

kien 01-31-2011 07:29 PM

Other..

10am - 22K T5s
1pm - Halides on
8pm - Halides off.
10pm - 22K T5 off.

So I guess that's 3 hours dawn and 2 hours dusk, 7 hours day grow.

I didn't see my choice which is 2 hours morning actinic, 10 hours sunlight and 2 hours evening actinic.

My daily light cycle for winter is 3pm to 3am atinics, which is 2 overdriven t5 @ 80w per with ati blue bulbs, halides kick on at 6pm to 1 am and I am running 2x250w hqi ushio 20k.

For summer the atinics come on at 6pm to 6am halides from 9pm to 3 am and the reason for this is because of heat. I generally run my lights really late aswell because I am at work all day and want to see the tank at night, I tend to run the halides longer in the winter and less in the summer... My tank also gets natural light from a window so that helps...

lastlight 01-31-2011 08:37 PM

10am - T5 on
3pm - halides on
8pm - halides off
10pm - T5 off

mseepman 02-01-2011 12:10 AM

8:00AM Actinics on
12:00PM MH joins the actinics
8:00PM MH off
9:30PM Actinics off

RSM 02-01-2011 06:41 PM

Actinic on 6:30 am
MH on at 2 pm, off at 8 pm
Actinic off at 10pm
24hr Moon lights

JohnnyReeftank 02-01-2011 07:56 PM

10 am - Actinic + Aquapink on
11 am - Actinic and White on
9 pm - Actinic and white off
10 pm - Actinic and Aquapink off

So 1 hour for dawn and dusk and 10 hours of full spectrum. I like using the Aquapink in my dawn/dusk......seems more like a sunrise/sunset IMO

Aquattro 02-01-2011 08:01 PM

I see a definite trend here with daylight. It seems most people are at 8 hours or less, myself included. 5+ years ago, a similar poll would typically show 10 to 12 hours of daylight. I think we're seeing a lot nicer tanks now with reduced photoperiods.

sunoka 02-01-2011 10:41 PM

My light cycle is forever changing with the daylite hours.. so I don`t have set cycle I have seasons.

Mandosh 02-01-2011 11:47 PM

10am: 22k T5 on
12pm: Halides on
7pm: Halides off
10pm: T5 off

Patty-Brent 02-02-2011 12:01 PM

I run blue LEDs for an hour as dawn then daylight for 10 hours then 2 hours of blue LEDs as dusk

MitchM 02-26-2011 03:21 PM

I didn't see anybody mention adapting for the lunar cycle.
Is anyone doing that?

AquaticFinatic 02-26-2011 04:32 PM

I have the illumina so I have 3 hour sunrise 7 hours of day light 3 hour sunset then the lunar cycle for night time. Im thinking of cutting down my day duration as it maybe a little long. I also have 6 cloud periods a day with a 5% chance of lightning!

monocus 02-27-2011 03:43 AM

clouds

how do you do your clouds-haven't figured it out yet-as you know the damn light doesn't come with instructions
