What no FTS Mike, you big tease:twised: good shots threw the glass dude.
|
very nice...do you have a hard time getting livestock up there? Do you have a LFS or get everything shipped? I am just starting a nano in prince rupert and am not having the easiest time stocking it.
|
Ok Grizz FTS tomorrow LOL
Goldie, everything has to be shipped unless I want to pay 2 1/2 times thru LFS, they deon't have any saltwater anything but will bring it in. Had pretty good luck getting things out of Vancouver, but since being on here and seeing all the stores in Edmonton that ship. Well I'm a little more excited LOL |
You will want to hit Red Coral Online Store and Blue World Aquatics in Edmonton & The Reef Shoppe in Lloyd, all great people to deal with for sure.

As far as hardware goes I have been everywhere online, find best price and buy LOL. Have bought a few things from Ocean Aquatics lately and have been happy with speed of delivery and pretty good prices. Since I found Canreef I'm definately going to start buying out of a few shops in Edmonton, should be faster and safer as far as livestock is concerned. |

3 Occerelis
2 Pink Skunk Tomato Clown I have to ask, how do you manage to keep 3 different type of clowns in one tank? Any hints, as I have a pair of skunks and 2 big nems, what they are not using. Like eventually have a pair of tomatoes or clarkies but afraid to start the war. |
Nice looking tank.. Just keep an eye on that Tomato when you have your had in the there - I have one, and he's a biter...

UMMMMM Luck maybe

Next was to try a condi and the Occerilis ignored that but started liking the Sabae and things were peaceful. For A Bit..... Then they took out the runt Occerelis. The Sabae went looking for a new home and ended up in filter intake, so I ordered a new Sabae Nem with a Clarkii again but I made sure it was a runt. Peaceful times again. But noone would go near Red Lta so I got a Tomato. Went directly to LTA and has never left. Clarki liked condis and Occ's had 2 Condi's to play in. All was peaceful until I had to take in 4 new fish from a friends crashed tanks, so for some reason the Occ's killed the Clarkii. To many fish, to small of a tank. this will change when new tanks come on line. The Pink have always stayed to one area , the Occ's to the left side and the Tomato stays in host. I would probably not do it the same way again, but I like clowns and Nems. Next tank will only have a pair of Gold Stripe Maroons and a Carpet Nem or a few minis. |
New stock and pics
Between losing some fish to a powerbar failure and getting rid or a few aggressive Damsels the tank looks quite empty these days. Trip to Edmonton yielded a few of Dez's frags and some nice fish and LPS from Shannon, Taylor at BWA. Pugley My Bicolor Blennie http://dl.dropbox.com/u/18798128/36%...GP4144-800.jpg Regal Tang from BWA, and a couple of Dez frags. Waiting for a new light as mine is not up to the job and frags aren't looking very healthy ATM. http://dl.dropbox.com/u/18798128/36%...11-001-800.jpg http://dl.dropbox.com/u/18798128/36%...11-003-800.jpg Feather duster from BWA, it vacated it's home and attached itself to my powerhead base. http://dl.dropbox.com/u/18798128/36%...11-004-800.jpg FTS http://dl.dropbox.com/u/18798128/36%...11-005-800.jpg Scoop doing what he does best, spreading sand everywhere. http://dl.dropbox.com/u/18798128/36%...11-010-800.jpg |

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/18798128/36%...%20001-800.jpg New 24" Odyssea 250W MH with 2 T5HO Actinic and 2 Moonlights. External ballasts and fan. 4 plugs so easy to set up on timer or controller. http://dl.dropbox.com/u/18798128/36%...%20002-800.jpg Well Packed, but did have to take apart because one of the bolts holding MH bulbs had fallen out. No biggie. http://dl.dropbox.com/u/18798128/36%...%20003-800.jpg http://dl.dropbox.com/u/18798128/36%...%20010-800.jpg http://dl.dropbox.com/u/18798128/36%...%20004-800.jpg I'm sure that individual reflectors would make it a better fixture , maybe a mod in the future. http://dl.dropbox.com/u/18798128/36%...%20005-800.jpg http://dl.dropbox.com/u/18798128/36%...%20006-800.jpg http://dl.dropbox.com/u/18798128/36%...%20015-800.jpg Ballasts easily installed in cabinet. http://dl.dropbox.com/u/18798128/36%...%20016-800.jpg |
My initial impression of this fixture is, Why didn't I get MH lighting long ago.
I'm going from a 2 bulb Hagen to this so there really should be a huge difference, but I am thrilled with this light. I realize that it is not really high end equipment, but for this system at home it is a huge addition. I only have a few SPS and I think that they were already dead from lack of proper lighting. I am going to leave them in the tank for a few days to see if they come back, I am hopeful. The mushrooms, toadstool and Nems love the new lights as do the torch and frogspawn. The current light cycle is Actinics on at 9:00 AM off at 9:00 PM MH on at 1:00 PM off at 6:00 PM Moonlights on 9:00 PM to 9:00 AM Is this enough MH for my lightly coraled tank (mostly softies) ?? If I add more LPS or SPS should I increase this ?? At present the bulbs are factory bulbs, so I am looking at upgrading the T5s for sure, I have 1 Icecap Actinic and am wondering if I should order one more or a deepwater 14k so that the sunrise sunset cycle has more natural light than straght actinic lighting. What do most others do ??? I am happy with the stock MH bulb, it is very white, so I may pick up a Phoenix for a little more blue to see the difference. Any recommendations ?? I will post some tank pics in a bit. |

Hey Mike, sorry I missed the addition of the new fixture.
As for your light cycle I think you should be good with what you have it set at for the moment. You are making a big jump in light so you don't want to cause any light shock by having the MH on to long. This is almost the exact same as my cycle but I shut the moon lights of @ 6am. As for the bulbs, all the stock bulbs that come in Oydessea fixtures are crap. I changed my MH's out as soon as I got them with bulbs from EBay. I am running 15000K MH and 12000K T5 in my fixtures ATM but also going to add some dimmable T5's to add a few more colors. Probably actinics, 22000K & maybe Fiji Purple. |
Thanks Greg,
I picked up a couple of those ebay bulbs up and have them ready to go. But need a 14k deepwater for one of the 2 T5 bulbs. So when I get that I will swap all the bulbs over. Looks like my plans are getting changed for my tanks again. Wife thinks it would be a waste to set up nicer tank at work than the one at home, So a swapout is in the works here. its like she was reading my mind LOL What are you running for lights on your FOWLR for lighting? I have 3 fixtures for other tank and will probably just start with fish and nems . 6 bulb T5 probably sufficient until I put corals in ? |
Right now I have a 4 bulb T5 fixture but I think I am going to try some cheap LED panels on the 116 gal just to see how they do.
|
There are some interesting LED fixtures out there. Dez looks like he may have found an economical solution if his early results continue.
I like the Reef Republic fixtures but they are far from economical. |
Short video from today

Update, It's been awhile.
The tank was taken down last fall and everything moved into a 25 gallon tank and moved into our bedroom.
Lost some livestock and inverts due to power outages that I caused, but other than a daily algae war things were coming aroundand I was looking at adding some LPS and clams, etc. March 06, 5 days before headingh out to Edmonton, the 25 gallon started leaking water through a seam. The mad scrasmble was on. Grabbed a rubbermaid and the old tank and did a changeover. I was originally worried that the tank would be to big but it fits nicely. Swap was a little nervewrecking. http://www.canreef.com/vbulletin/sho...2&postcount=14 Turned into a WIN/WIN situation because I got a bigger tank and it was the wifes favorite tank. Bigger tank and Happy wife YEAHHHHHH she even helped when I had to swap everything. After a couple of days everything settled in , but I was unsure if I should still with plans to add anything to the tank. But once I got to Edmonton and saw all the goodies there , there was no way I could go home empty handed. http://dl.dropbox.com/u/18798128/Bed...15-001-800.jpg Squamosa from BWA http://dl.dropbox.com/u/18798128/Bed...15-004-800.jpg Another BWA beauty. http://dl.dropbox.com/u/18798128/Bed...15-003-800.jpg Firefish guarding the Acans from RCE http://dl.dropbox.com/u/18798128/Bed...15-006-800.jpg Frogspawn from Wayne , not quite happy over the trip here. I noticed in that video you have a lemon peel angel and a flame angel. How do they get along? I wanted to add a lemon peel to my tank but didn't know how that would go over with my flame angel.
