Hawaiian Trigger Fish
The State fish of Hawaii is the humuhumunukunukuapua'a
pronounced: hoo-moo-hoo-moo-noo-koo-noo-koo-auhp-oo-ah-ah I just caught a picture of this yesterday at a Maui snorkel area! http://i655.photobucket.com/albums/u...e/P1000911.jpg |
Handsome little fella!!!
Jealous, wish I could be in Hawaii right about now. Make sure to stop at Cheeseburger in Paradise before you go, there's one in Lahaina with a second floor veranda type seating area that looks over the bay and then there's one in Wailea too if I recall correctly. When you're not snorkeling that is. :) PS. MOAR PICTURES PLEASE! |
Hi Tony........our first stop for food was Lahaina at the Cheeseburger in Paradise!!!!!!!!! that is hillarious!!! You called it!!!!!!!! we are staying just north of Lahaina in a condo rental.
There will be more pics to come as I am a reef whore........ you should see the wrasses here! WOW!.....little buggers are hard to take a picture of though......we were standing in a very small bay the other day and the sea turtles are huge!! Quote:

Dog Faced Puffer
This is a picture of a little smaller DFP than what we encountered....but we were swimming over the reef and I just happened to look around behind us and there was a large Dog faced puffer just a couple of feet away....up near the surface checking us out......scared the crap out of me at the time!!!.......I had to shoo him away because I did not like him that close....we started swimming around and again I look and there he is.......stalking us. Scared me for a second....but he was just curious.
**The one in this picture was approx 24" from nose to end of tail. http://i655.photobucket.com/albums/u...e/P1010002.jpg |
Nice! I just got back from there myself. Where you staying at?
A few places that have some wicked snorkeling are Black Rock (Ka'anapali), Ulua/Mokapu and The Aquaiurm and The Fishbowl down in La Parouse Bay. I highly, highly, highly recommend the last two in La Parouse. If you want to go over to Molokini give Capt'n Don from Seafire a call. They have nice small boat (none of that "cattle boat" crap) and will take you to the best spots that the huge boats don't go to. His wife will even come snorkeling with you! Their number is 808-879-2201. If you want to know the secret turtle spots PM me. I'll post some of my pics later this week. |

We are at Hale Mahina, in Honokowai......just north of Lahaina. Just north of us is Kapalua beach. This is where I got the pictures so far. Nice beach.....lots of corals. I will head to Black Rock and La Parouse Bay very soon. My plans are to visit as many as I can. Did you go to the Maui Aquarium? What a very cool aquarium.......very large.....I will put up a video when completed after I get home.
Thanks for the info ScubaSteve! Quote:

On holidays and Canreef still haunts you? Ha ha!
