Money for Nothing

|
money for nothin
yup the misses is really @#**&%$ at the crtc about that one they must have nothin better to do but it will sell more records
|
What a joke did they even pay attention to what the lyrics say.....idiots need a real life
|
This whole ban on the song is just the start... Unless it is overturned, more will come.
KUDO's to all the radio stations that either will play the song in a marathon, or just ban the song in its entirety based on that they don't play censored music. Even the gay population overall says this is just ridiculous. Lets see what happens. |
Sad day indeed. A very troubling precedent and the completely misguided and misplaced.
|
Wasn't even the CRTC it was the Canadian Broadcast Standards Council, the broadcast industries own body. It's unbelievable the power one crybaby can have over an entire country, the question is where does it stop? Pretty much everything on our airways must offend at least one person, with this precedent the industry will eventually ban itself.
Glad I've got a satellite radio, I can boycott the entire nanny state system in Canada. |
money for nothing
The actual story on this song is that Mark Knopfler wandered in to an appliance store and was standing in front of a bank of TV's, all which were on MTV. A delivery guy (for the store) came up to him and remarked on the easy life of the guy playing. |He obviously didn't know who he was talking to! (and you can see the actual comments from MK on youtube.... it's hilarious). The song is written from this dude's perspective.... not Mark Knopflers. In effect, its about how this other guy see's Mark, as he is one of those faggots with the earring and the makeup....
as per the misses the biggest mark knopler geek i know! |
The idiots are running the asylum....
I love that song with it's wry humour and am deeply saddened to see such inane censorship rear it's lop-sided head again.
When are they gonna' start "burning books?" :laluot_17::laluot_08::laluot_26::laluot_20: and how does one "dis-empower" the freaking CBC? Bunny |
Now look at them yoyo's(the censors) that's not the way to do it. Please leave this classic song alone!!!!!Grrrrr!!!
|
I hope they "Get a blister on their little finger", for pushing the button on a classic! For Shame!
|
I am the last person ever to support censorship and I loathe political correctness however I have a different point of view on this.
Going to high school in the 80's kids would get called "fag" and "homo" as the default insult. If you wanted to call someone an idiot/loser you would call them a "faggot", as if being gay was the worst thing in the world to be. I don't know if it's the same now or if teenagers are more accepting of gays. Anyway as a kid/teenager I got the message loud and clear from parents and peers that homosexuals were the lowest of the low. And I bought into this bullshit. One kid I know tried to hang himself because of this. A while back I looked up an old school friend on Facebook and found a picture of him with his (male) partner. I had had no idea. How many times had me and my friends used the word "fag" in his presence. I feel bad knowing he had to put up with this and pretend to be OK with it. It's true the song takes on the persona of someone else to call someone a "faggot". Still, we would not accept a song about filthy niggers, greedy Jews, or crafty Chinamen, but "faggot" is OK. Lastly no one censored the song. There is a voluntary group of broadcasters who voluntarily agree to adhere to a set of standards. Any radio station is free to play this song if they wish. |
You obviously don't listen to rap. N word, kill kill kill, demean women and on and on. Can't wait until they censor that.

36 million people in Canada and it only takes one complaint... wow!
Now if only some one would complain about Nirvana! I would never have to hear that crap on my way to and from work. Keith. |
I thought only "Weird Al" had the divine right to butcher and make revisions to existing hits Lol, not this broadcast standards council.
|
Pretty sad day when that happened. One of the biggest classic songs of all times, with one of the most awesome guitar riffs and they sensor it. The book burning has already begun - they are replacing the "n" word in Tom Sawyer. What is next?

screw censorship...get sirius radio. I can listen to Howard Stern talk dirty to prostitutes than flip it over to the rap station and sing along to f**k the police. Death metal...dirty comedy...and awesome rock...its all there. |
+1 on the sat radio.
Makes you wonder when they will get around to censoring that too. If you don't like it turn it off, leave me alone! |
Stupid over-sensitive PC police. One bloody complaint & they ban a song that's been enjoyed by millions for over 20 years. What a crock!
