What is the noisiest part in your aquarium?

Please share you experience.

reefwars 01-04-2011 07:59 PM

right now the noisiest part of my aquarium is the sound of the bubbles in my vertex skimmer lol im hoping my doors will kill that too so im happy:):)

Aquattro 01-04-2011 08:03 PM

Chiller. But just bought fans, so hopefully water in my Durso becomes the loudest part.

Snappy 01-04-2011 08:03 PM

Noisiest piece is my Hammerhead pump used for the closed loop.

Myka 01-04-2011 08:22 PM

The EuroReef RS-180 is the only audible sound coming from my tank. Maybe it's just drowning out the sound of everything else? Oh, the Tunze Osmolator is actually louder than anything else when it is topping up the water.

Lampshade 01-04-2011 08:56 PM

I answered Main Pump, but it's not even the pump itself, the cooling fan on the back of motor is the loudest. Pretty happy with how quiet everything is, once i've finished my stand should be near silent.

Lance 01-04-2011 09:15 PM

My Beckett skimmer is the noisiest with the Reeflo Barracuda a close second. Luckily the sump area is in a room where noise is not an issue.

cale262 01-04-2011 09:23 PM

Very much a toss up between the MH fans and the MP40's...

outacontrol 01-04-2011 09:34 PM

My mp10, the tank was silent before with the Koralia powerheads.

Mrfish55 01-04-2011 10:09 PM

Loudest part of my system would be the nagging sound I hear on a regular basis about how much time and money I spend on the tanks.

PoonTang 01-04-2011 11:26 PM

The 2 waterfalls into the overflows and the one durso that wont settle down after I cleaned it. Every 15 seconds I get this giant sucking noise. :(

cwatkins 01-04-2011 11:34 PM

I voted sump waterfall as it will be until I change to a Herbie this weekend coming up.

After that, it'll be in this order:

1. Skimmer pump (Vertex IN-100)
2. Vortech (when near max gph)
3. Return pump

christyf5 01-04-2011 11:47 PM

definitely my skimmer, the pump is making an odd noise but I'm kind of scared to take it apart with my track record on equipment "maintenance":surprise:

Just make sure you have a spare of every possible part on hand....

eli@fijireefrock.com 01-05-2011 12:38 AM

i voted the diy skimmer.its the 1/4' air tube into the pump, too lazy to silence it.
but again its not a problem as i have an in-wall tank and back room is only for equipment.

Dez 01-05-2011 12:54 AM

My return pump, but that's in the basement and the tank is on the main floor. Upstairs the noisiest part is the wavebox.

Parker 01-05-2011 02:20 AM

My screams of frustration, second would be the three darts running the system. Each of them alone are pretty quiet but together they make a quite a loud hum.

zum14 01-05-2011 03:40 PM

Skimmer air intake, sounds like someone sucking the last bit of a milkshake with a straw. Except it never stops.

ponokareefer 01-05-2011 04:16 PM

My noisiest was my Rio 32HF return pump that just died. My Mag 9.5 that I replaced it with is near silent. The noisiest part of my tank now is my skimmer, but it is pretty quiet.

The gurgling sound coming from my overflow to sump pipe....which will be fixed on the next upgrade project coming soon.

monocus 01-05-2011 10:42 PM

noise

actually ,it's the pump(gen x pcx 40-75 lpm) for my bullet 2-but it's not very loud

There are a bunch of diy stuff that you can make to silence the air intake.
On that note my skimmer pump is the noisiest part of my system. Next is my return pump which couldn't be heard if the sump cabinet was closed.

I second this one, There is just a slight hum from my tank and it is probably from the 4 pumps running my 2 skimmers.

Magma 01-06-2011 05:40 AM

on my 40gal reef the loudest part is the skimmer for sure, its the injector thats loud (remora HOB skimmer) I tried putting foam in there but doesnt seem to help much.

as for my 35gal with sump I would say its the water rushing into the sump, next time I would do 2 or 3 smaller pipes rather than one big one..

bignose 01-08-2011 08:30 PM

I voted main main pump because of it's constant humming but also the overflow box which makes a slight trickling sound.

Bblinks 01-09-2011 02:25 AM

For me, running 3 x 400 mh I have 2 x 80 cfm fans cooling the fixture, although they are only 35 db, if they turn on after I get up, it is almost unbearable. I use a bubble king skimmer which I consider second noisiest in the tank, follow by the anti siphon holes on tank water return pipe. I also use a red dragon 1200g return pump. The absolute best investment I ever made, ultra quite, super performer, very happy with it.

Skimmerking 01-09-2011 02:42 AM

the Air sucking in from the Dual 1262 eheims from the Deltec AP 702

shrimpchips 01-09-2011 03:50 AM

For me it's the air intake on my BK 180 mini.

I had that too - until I used a piece of styrofoam to float the motor so it doesn't vibrate against the bottom of the tank. And the additional advantage is that if I do hear it humming on the bottom, I know it's time to top up the ATO reservoir.

Beanz 01-12-2011 02:23 AM

I would say my overflow

LMAO...I hear that too....

Greenmaster 01-19-2011 08:34 PM

I like the sound of running water... my water goes down pipes at an angle and makes an awesome waterfall sound. (can be a little distracting when I'm watching a movie though.)

DiverDude 01-25-2011 07:12 PM

Depends on the day. In the summer it's probably the chiller. The rest of the time it's the Mrs. busting my nuts for how much that little puddle of salty water costs.

Kidding Dear...just kidding......love you... <kisses>
