What do your clowns host in?????
just curious to know what hosts are being used by clowns... i dont want to add a nem and my other clowns are hosting a toadstool but i dont want to add one of those either.. i have seen my clowns also host torches and frogspawn...
What are your clowns hosting in?????? |
Mine used a Maxi-Jet powerhead until i dropped a RBTA in my tank.
|
Some of mine like fuzzy mushrooms. I have seen some host in kenya trees, but not my own. I have also seen them host brain corals, but this is usually bad for the coral.
|
My Clowns host in my Gold Torch.

One of my clowns insists on hosting a rock of zoanthids and has been covered in black spots for over 2 years now. My other clowns are smarter.
|
Mine use to host in a huge Squamosa I had.
|
Mine host in the 4in. pvc house they have lived in for almost 10yrs now. Seems all they like but then thats what they grew up with. Have you seen pics of Mike,s in his huge squamosa clam. The female even goes inside.
|
GBTA in nano, and huge 10 head green Torch Coral in the 187.
|
one of mine insists on hosting the overflow box.....
|
mine dont host because they seem to be short bus special and dont understand what to do...
mind you there young and tank bred so they probably dont have the urges yet.. |
Mine have taken to living in my leather finger. They like to sleep in it at night. I even have a GBTA but they like the leather finger better.

My clowns are camping out in a goniopora. We've had the goni for about a year and a half. The clowns started hosting their little party there about six months ago and the goni seems no worse for wear.
We also have a couple of nice GBTAs but the ocellaris clowns like the goni instead. They are captive raised and perhaps they do not know better. Plus I think I read somewhere that bubbletips weren't really one of their usual anemones. |
Mine will host in a GBTA, but usually only the larger of the 4 fit in there... when the BTA decides to close up they all move to the forest of xenia above it and hide in there... one loner likes to go to the fuzzy mushrooms on the opposite size of the tank.
during they day they'l play around in the extended hammer coral forest I got. lol. |
My false perculas hang in my long tentacle anemone, my pink skunk clowns hang in my toadstool.
|
how long does it typically take for clowns to find something to host in or adapt to once they are introduced to a new tank?
|
MIne where in Zoa's, they've recently just been staying in the top corner of the tank. Getting my eco-rock order this week, so hopefuly the new aquascaping lets them find a home?
|
Frogspawn for 2 1/2 years.

tried the picture trick with them, when I put up the picture on the side of the tank, every fish in there moved to the opposite side of the tank and hid...so i tried another picture, smaller, same thing...
I did notice today that I woke up and one of them was inside the newly formed bubble tip, and his fins are all nipped *rolleyes* gonna be one of those days I think... |

This is the residence of mine. They have lived in there for over 9yrs. now. Not to mention several different tanks. Its now hidden behind the rock work in my 35g cube. It currently also has a fresh batch of eggs in it as we speak. |
mine have hosted in a zoa filled rock for about 2 years, they started out (both clowns) with the black spots, then they faded and i guess they became immune to it!

OMG That is AWESOME!!!! |
spoke to soon, came back tonight after a party and noticed my clowns where protecting the area which both of my GBTA's are, and after lights out the clowns didnt go to there normal area for sleeping...instead they are tucked away nicely in one of the GBTA's :D first time ever! hopefully this will be the start of them hosting the BTA for good :D
|
Sorry for the peeve but: Anemones host clowns, not the other way around. The act of hosting is performed by the anemone (or powerhead, or coral, or whatever). Clownfishes don't "host in" anything. They are hosted by things.
My clowns are hosted by a LTA. I've had frogspawn, leather, and hammer corals act as surrogate hosts as well though never a powerhead. |

ours host a rock, and lay eggs regularly
|
my clowns hosted in a giant saddle carpet which was eating all fish in the tank as fast as it could catch them so I sold it. Then they hosted my hammer coral and now they have moved on to some small rock nem's that are very nice looking kind of look like a mini dark green BTA.

I know its a anemone but thought i would share. They upgraded from the algae magnet they used to cherish.
