Pump vibration
Looking for ideas on material to put under my in-sump skimmer and pump, the vibration noise is unbearable :)
I have minimal height, so was thinking about some rubber underlay, but worried it will break down. any thoughts? |
A piece of old wetsuit... if you have one.

take some airline hose. slice it length wise and slide it over the bottom edges of the pumps and skimmer. Use some zip ties to secure if its not tight enough.

Brad - I put grey, poly-style underlay in my sump under my return pump. 2 years and is not showing any signs of breaking down. Got it from Home Depot.

A clean tea towel folded over a few times and placed under will work good for now until you can find something more permanent

I just put a piece of fairly thin styrofoam under mine. I think it was previously a styro fish box lid

Mouse pad

I have seen mouse pads made of wetsuit material. neoprene |
I cut up the sponge from a mag drive pump put it under works great
|
I used a piece of filtration foam and used plastic ties
Also you could use foam, the same stuff you use between your tanks and stand. |
what i did to quiet my sump for vibrtion was lay those interlocking child mats you can get from can-tire under sump cut to size that alone reduced vibration. you could do the same under the skimmer if you liked but i started at the sump. and in all honesty my sump compartment is quieter than my fridge when it runs i hear the over flow more so

Anyone with more knowledge in foam able to give any in site on wether this stuff would work? Seen it at the local micheals. Its nice and thin, seems like it's close to mousepad material. Cheap too. $1.69 a sheet. All it said was foam sheet and acid free. If its given the ok I'll be throwing some under my skimmer as I'm having the same issue.
