So thats what would have happened if the walls that were bowing on my 2000g pond gave out. Sure glad they didn't:lol:

Ouch:cry:! That hurts, nice that there was no livestock though..and nobody hurt...

HOLAY!!!! I am surprised they have not made any kind of computer technology to monitor the glass or sides of the tank to alarm you if something like this is about to happen! And if they already have this machine, when I setup the 400GAL tank I want, it WILL HAVE IT! haha. somehow I doubt the insurance company was too impressed by this!? Kind of makes you wonder what it would look like if Big Als Shark Tank(2000GAL) burst?!?! WHAT A MESS!!! lol.

I had a 600g hot water condo boiler empty into my wood frame condo on the 3rd floor. Wasn't that fun/

You could get strain gauge installed... Used in industrial applications all the time.

Very depressing... something we always have on our mind. in this hobby.

Make sure your home insurance has you covered!

Neopimp 12-11-2010 12:25 PM

What Ross Said... very very common.. and a simple principle too. As the wafer is distorted the resistance will change... measure the resistance and sound an alarm :) Little more to it then that but thats the idea.

MitchM 12-11-2010 02:06 PM

It was a used tank on it's first fill and the bottom seal failed. Not sure how a strain gauge would help here.

Mitch

rokosd 12-11-2010 10:39 PM

the strain gauge probably wouldnt help with the seals but if the seals flexed before they let go, it might help. But if you think about it after, what are you going to do anyways if the alarm goes off?! that is 1500GALLONS, thinking about it after doesnt really help to have the alarm. pretty much if she is going to break, then she'll break and there is nothing we can do about it:cry: just like the other guy said, make sure you insurance knows and you are covered. Even 100GAL of saltwater running down inside your walls will do extreme damage to your house.
