Snappy's 400 -- Road to recovery

2010 was a year of many issues however things seem to be on track again (knock on wood). Still have a long way to go before things are up to snuff however things are heading in the right direction. Here's a few pictures as things are starting to colour back up.

looking good. Any changes your making from your previous set up?

globaldesigns 12-03-2010 07:19 AM

Hey, looking good. Glad to hear things are improving.

Any changes you made to see these improvments. I have been having issues also, somewhat along the same as you. any advice would be greatly appreciated.

One day, when you are ready, and once I to am... I do want to come over and restock my tank with your beautiful coral.

Argentiner 12-03-2010 07:42 AM

Good to see things are turning around for you Greg. I too have been having issues with hair algae and cyano which a year ago I had never had anything to do with, and it ended up costing me a few colonies.

ScubaSteve 12-03-2010 08:11 AM

Sigh, your "recovering after a traumatic 2010" still looks better than what I've got. Got some nice stuff there, Greg!

By the way, what's that first purple and green guy?

lorenz0 12-03-2010 08:51 AM

looks like a A.secale to me

kien 12-03-2010 01:37 PM

Looking good Greg! We should start up a 2010 support group :)

Aquattro 12-03-2010 01:49 PM

Greg, any "lessons learned" advice when transferring to a new tank?

MMAX 12-03-2010 02:33 PM

I'll be seeing some of these first hand. Picking up a few frags from Greg later on today.

lastlight 12-03-2010 02:40 PM

Saw the tank this past weekend and it's indeed looking great again. I know he's running bio-pellets now but other than that I'm not aware of any differences.

Cranky When Wet 12-03-2010 04:22 PM

Glad to hear good news! Here's to a happy tank :-) Bunny

BioPellets, OH KNOW... Don't let Lorenz0 hear this! HEHE, just poking fun.

Have a great day all, and I also agree with another post. Greg's recovery also looks better than my tank. Just not fair!

:thumb::thumb::thumb: Glad to hear things are on the "up & up" again Greg.

I was thinking the exact same thing. Oh nos, the Pellet Police is going to bust Greg!

The coral scape will obviously change but the rock work is staying the same.

Thanks, my advise is to buy coral RX, dip everything and QT if possible before it goes into your system.

Thanks I hope everything stays healthy for you.

Great to see everything is coming back for you Greg! I will need to stop by for a few of your higher end SPS frags shortly, any idea when your website will be updated?

Yeah 2010 has been a rough year for my reef.

That purple one is an Aussie piece and I think A.secale as well.

Thanks but a long way to go yet and a support group sounds like a good idea.

As mentioned dip everything no matter how much you trust the source, accidents happen.

Thanks but as mentioned it is on the mend but has a long way to go. I just strated the bio-pellets but I am using for just a nitrate reducer and not a ULNS.

I recently saw a signature on another board that said.......There's two types of "reefers".....those that have had a major crash and those that haven't...................................yet!

In the near future I plan to start up back a sponsor here again but I'm not in a big rush. Updating the website will be a big job so it might be awhile, sorry. Levi, for now best to just shoot me an email or PM and see what I've got going on at a given time.

michika 12-03-2010 08:34 PM

Do you only dip with Coral RX? I'm just curious.

2010 seems to have been a miserable year for many people. I'm glad to see things are coming back together for you.

Greg: I thought you were already running pellets. So you only just recently starting running the pellets? Like, after your "event" as opposed to prior to your "event". It also doesn't sound like you changed up anything during the "event"?

Its such a sweet coral. Seems like alot of it has been coming in on these aussie shipments.

I'm sure you still have some sweet treasures lurking in your system. Always enjoyed coming over and finding something cool every time

Willito 12-03-2010 09:56 PM

Welcome back Greg! 2011 will be your come back.

That is what I have been using as of late and it is my dip of choice for sure.

In my old system I ran Polyp-Labs "reef-resh" with good success however with 700 gallons of water it is too pricey. I had good success in my new system without carbon dosing but now with 80+ fish in the system I feel the need for a nitrate reducer so I decided on the bio-pellets mainly because they are very little extra work.

There is some very nice Aussie stuff coming into Canada these days. I should have some new Aussie stuff in the near future.

Picked up this sweet purple&yellow Turbinaria reniformis from a friend this week (thanks Gary) and noticed it's hosting two little green crabs. Nature is pretty cool. (auto feeder had gone off just before I snapped the photo so please excuse the pellets on the coral, I chased the fish away before they got to eat them all.)

I know this is a little off topic, but I'm curious about Bio Pellets, what are your thoughts on them so far? would you recommend them?

Too early to tell however if they do what they claim I would think they will pay off. I need to run some sort of carbon dosing for nitrate/phosphate control so I'm hoping this will help.

Snappy 12-11-2010 03:47 AM
