Thanks Everyone...

So our time on Canreef has ended. I'd like to take this time to thank all of our customer's for your loyal support and please know that even though we are no longer sponsors here on Canreef, we will always be a phone call or email away.

email: livestock@oceaniccorals.com
phone: 604-625-2268

We are always striving to provide our customers the best corals possible but our tenure here on Canreef is done. Public attacks against us has finally taken it's toll.

Have a great one and keep on reefing.

Support Aquaculture.

All the best.

Paul

Hate to see it come to this... Will you be setting up mail list to keep us out of towers informed with what eye candy your getting in or keep the site updated more?

WOW! i totally understand you decision, and it's a loss for Canreefer's for sure.

kien 11-03-2010 01:40 PM

Wow.. This is a huge blow to the community :(. So unfortunate that it had to come to this.

gobytron 11-03-2010 01:57 PM

Seems like more of a shame when its a sponsor, but i can think of at least 2 people who don't bother to post here anymore due to the "club" always ready to bust out their self righteous opinions...

I just went to your store for the first time 2 weeks ago and bought some nice frags...I'm sure you will be just fine without a sponsorship here though I am glad for having canreef introduce you to many of us.

all the best, good luck.

Oceanic 11-03-2010 04:31 PM

I think this is a shame and I agree that it is a huge blow to Canreef, OC has been the most active vendor here for a long time... I think that this decision is warranted but is most certainly as a result of certain individuals and or Vendors! Certain individuals use their personal accounts to make aggressive accusative and erroneous posts as a cover for the LFS they either work for or have an invested interest in. Other "****creeps" have businesses on the side that import loads of livestock to supply the local market with regular specimens and simply post and ridicule out of pure jealousy.

Lance 11-03-2010 04:39 PM

 Bummer!
Well, Good Luck to all of you and I'll certainly keep in touch.

trilinearmipmap 11-03-2010 04:43 PM

I was at your store a few months ago and got some nice frags at a reasonable price. Anyway wish you the best and will visit your store again.

Petty jealousy. Very sorry to hear you are leaving... Very happy to know you are a "Sunday drive" away >:-)

mseepman 11-03-2010 05:07 PM

Sad to hear you are leaving...it's a shame it's come to this as in the past I've always found Canreef to be one of the best out there for controlling this type of stuff.

Skimmerking 11-03-2010 06:10 PM

So what did I miss here. sorry to see ya go but WHY? Or should I Ask.

Don't ask! It took me nearly an hour to sort through it all!

Paul, I really think you should stick around as a vendor (and regardless, I know you will always still have Canreef up on your screen).

To settle this you should have a post stickied to the top of your vendor forum that simply lays down the law regarding this contentious topic. State what you keep having to state over and over again. If anyone asks in the future, simply refer them to the stickied topic.

dsaundry 11-03-2010 07:22 PM

Sorry to hear about this..I will keep in touch and see you regularly regardless.

I think your missing the point. There wont be a OC vendor forum because OC will no longer be a vendor here.

Paul I hate to see you go.Like stated before you were one of the most active members on here with some of the nicest corals.

I am sure I am not the only one but I beg you to stay. Lets see the Canreef staff step up up their duties on here so we dont loose you and Oceanic Corals.

I was going on this assumption:

Paul, I really think you should re-consider. There's always going to be a few bad apples in life. If you still leave, best of luck. I know I'll still be making the drive out to the shop!

I'm in the catagory of " It doesn't matter either way if he stays" Paul knows who his loyal customers are and those customers know how to get ahold of Paul. Canreef is not needed to either to do business...... Do you notice a third party standing out in the cold here... I do...maybe they should have done more before they lost his spons... " filter switched to on"

I really liked getting updates a day or so after corals came in. The website was never updated like it was here on canreef.

Wow, sad to see it come to this

One of my favorite frags came from you guys and it was worth every penny

Personally I am glad that Oceanic Corals will no longer be using Canreef as an advertising media to promote their sales. OC promoting their business was starting to overwhelm the posts on Canreef.

Interesting view; however, without sponsors Canreef would cease to exist. Many customers can't wait for new posts to arrive for livestock, sales, etc....

I personally like being able to interact with Vendors on here. The concept works well. I like this better than having ads randomly insertted between posts in all the threads like some other forums do. (Sorry if this is a little off topic...)

To be fair I think this individual has been out of the country for the last month on personal matters... (if I recall reading correctly)

MitchM 11-03-2010 09:34 PM

With regard to the coral names, if they're not trademarked, then I don't care. They're nice looking legal corals. The whole issue looks like sour grapes to me.

I was looking forward to purchasing quite a few in the future:cry:

I like seeing offers from vendors. If the vendors go away, I usually just forget about them. I try to buy from vendors that support this BB.

I hope that they reconsider leaving.

Mitch

This is the reason why they're leaving Canreef. He makes a nice post saying thank you for the time here, stated his reasons why he was leaving and that was it. People have been leaving kind messages for him. You on the other hand, while your opinion is still valid, decided that it was necessary to drag this down into another goddamned opinionated ****ing ****ing match. Way to go. Grow the **** up.

Paul, it was good to have you around. I always looked forward to your posts. It was always like Christmas morning when a livestock post popped up. I would enjoy it if you could create a regular mailer to go out to the people who do appreciate your hard work and great products!

Oceanic 11-03-2010 09:36 PM

Just so everyone knows, please remember that I am no longer affiliated with Oceanic Corals on a business or Vendor standpoint but still retain my original member name....

Just don't want to confuse anyone with my comments or opinions as they are purely from my standpoint only and not necessarily the opinion of Paul....

Ian

Sorry to hear you guys go, but as with all business, advertisement is "out of sight, out of mind", so hopefully you make the right decision to target your specific customer segment.

Tyler, the real overwhelming posting pattern is the buy/sell forums, which take up more than 50% of new posts anytime I look at the board, but certainly not something to do away with..

OC was a welcome contributor to the board, providing great products previously not available.
Personally, I'm going to harrass Paul until he changes his mind :)

What?? I personally love seeing the new pics of livestock and would suggest that this site is a great medium for reaching your target customers. I hope you reconsider leaving Canreef , I would be concerned that it may not be in your best business interest and as a valley reefer I have a vested interest in seeing OC thrive.I think the negative posting from your competition should have been kept in check. Whether you stay or go Paul a newsletter mailed out to all your existing customers with livestock notification sure reminds me your around(hint).

As a competitor, I am still sorry to see them leave.

The people and staff of any forum make the site.

The site gets larger due to the administrator and staffs diligence, and the visitors input. Unless the site solicits donations, they need sponsors.

Server space and bandwidth needs to be paid for, site owners need to make something from the site for all the time they put into it behind the scenes.

I can honestly say OC, is/was one of the few vendors that actually cared enough to answer questions, not only advertising when they had something to sell.

Sorry to see you guys go,

Ken - BWA

Posts like this from other vendors I am sure means lots to Paul right about now, Paul and myself know how challenging it is to create a viable business in this industry... If vendors just stuck together instead of back stabbing each other it would only benefit vendors and customers in the end.

Kudos to you for setting competition aside and putting in an honest intelligent opinion.

Ian

dsaundry 11-04-2010 12:05 AM

To the "individual" who stated they were glad to see them go, what exactly were you thinking? It is my understanding that any vendor can post new livestock or supply items. Competition is good for business all around. Without it prices are driven up. Don't know what you do for a living but you would be hard pressed to run a successful business without some form of competition, either from suppliers or competitors. I find your statement without any credibility in real world marketing. I hope the other vendors don't pull out as that would be the end of this forum. One more note, without vendors this forum would cease to be free, so ask yourself this, "are you willing to pay a monthly/yearly fee so you can post what you want to buy/sell"?- I for one enjoy the policies of Canreef for the most part when you compare them to other forums, I see most of your threads are trying to sell or buy things, so should the mods ban people who only buy/sell stuff?

Hey Paul sorry it had to come to this but I can sure see your point!
Doesn't hurt me much because I am in the store at least every second day but it will suck for the out of towners.
Maybe you should have people sign up on an E-mail list and they could automatically get your updates and all the asshat haters out there won't be bothered buy your ads!
Keith.

reefwars 11-04-2010 12:30 AM

I love seeing vendors ads who wouldn't , and I think overall we have a fairly friendly site , where grudges aren't held long and usually on a different post were all friends again:)

Good luck to you Paul I hope to place an order in the future and will alwYs encourage others to order from you:) good luck in your days :)

christyf5 11-04-2010 01:04 AM

This sucks and Paul I hope you reconsider this. I'm sure you have already put a lot of thought into it but maybe think again and set the haters to "ignore". I'm sorry to see you go but hope that you keep your website up to date so us out of towners still have up to date access to your awesome corals

lastlight 11-04-2010 01:07 AM

I'm with Christy. I've only ever bought a skimmer off you guys but in the future I'd be up for some nice frags as well.

I so agree. A site this large with the number of active/posting members FREE? The sponsors pay for us to surf this site.....if the few jacka$$'s who have sent this sponsor packing would like to cough up the sponsorship fee's that would be great...otherwise, use your head and realize that it's a priviledge for us to be here....not a right. A sponsor pays to be here, in return gets to ADVERTISE. So advertise away. That's their RIGHT. As was once said, if you don't like it, DON'T CLICK.

I am sad to see Oceanic Corals go. I have purchased corals, I have grilled them on skimmers, I have picked their brains.....and they will be sorely missed by many, myself included. I own a business, I was contemplating sponsorship on Canreef...but don't want to be under the fire that this company was put under because, "heaven forbid" they want to advertise their stuff.

Sorry to see you go, but still hope that you will reconsider! There are sooo many good people, and only a few rotting turbo snails.
