Hippo Clams Coming November 4!
1 Attachment(s)
We've has lots of requests for clams lately, so Shaun has managed to secure us an order of Hippopus Clams!
Hippopus' (Bear's Paw) Clam's are one of the easiest to keep. They are large, easy to acclimate, require less lighting than Crocea or Maxima Clam's, but still have fantastic colours! Our supply is limited, so we'll be taking pre orders all this week. Contact the store if you're interested. |
Are you willing to ship?
|
Oh so cool!! I second the question re. shipping. Actually I'd go in with you on that Cath if there was enough to go around if you were interested..
|
Shipping won't be a problem. I talked to the supplier and he is guaranteeing us 8 - 3" A grade and about 20 - 3" A grade derasa as well. So far two of the hippo's are already spoken for.
|
How much are they goin to be???
|
It looks like the hippo's will be $70 and the derasa will be $100.
|
when you say large .. how large?
thanks |
Hippo
Wondering.... is that the color of the clams you are getting?
Looks really nice. I am in the market :) |
Add me to the Calgary list!! :D

Add me to Calgary list also

I thought those clams looked like Maxima in the picture. I also wanted to find out more about the hippo clams because they are not available in the trade very often.
I found this site http://animal-world.com/encyclo/reef/clams/tridacna.htm apparently these hippo clams arent even of the tridacna family.... This is a picture of a hippo clam... http://animal-world.com/encyclo/reef...popus-ipsf.jpg and more info on the hippo clam.. http://animal-world.com/encyclo/reef...ppopusClam.php A little less blue then the maxima picture but rare and nice in a different sort of way. |
Um it looks like you have some very pretty maximas pictured. Hippopus clams aren't nearly as pretty and don't extend their mantles.
These are hippopus clams, while "neat" I don't think they're nearly as awesome as maximas: http://animal-world.com/encyclo/reef...popus-ipsf.jpg |
The attachments shows pretty maximas (VERY pretty maximas). No, indeed, hippopus look very different from typical tridacnids, they are a different genus.
I knew this already, but maybe others didn't, so thanks for the clarifications! :) |
Thanks for clarifying the id, the farm sent me pics that won't upload, so I grabbed the first one listed as hippo on google. I'll try again with the pics today.

Not nearly as nice as the other clams. Thanks for having that corrected quickly. I could have made a big mistake based on the picture. |
Just got the flight confirmation, the clams and our Bali cultured corals will be in Friday morning.
We've got 6 Hippo and 14 Derasa on the pack list, so for those that contacted me earlier this week let me know if you are still interested. I can hold the hippos until Saturday to give you time to say yes or no. After that its first come! |
