Calgary - a favour - if you have a "spare" MP40. ...

Ok this is a long shot but .. you never know until you ask, so ...

I'd like to trial a Vortech in my tank to see how it compares to having two waveboxes. Does anyone have one they'd be willing to bring over to my place for half an hour or so, so I can see what effect it would have in my tank? (Tank is just filled with RO/DI currently so no worries of cross contamination or anything like that, hopefully!)

Please and thank you?

michika 10-20-2010 03:44 PM

I agreee with everyone, Vortech's all the way. I have 2 and love them!!! I HATE THE PRICE THOUGH... but can say they work well.

BlueTang<3 10-20-2010 10:32 PM

Go with the 60's

Holy Crap! 60's... I just went to the manufacturer website and sure enough there is. I wonder how much these are, 7500GPH, that is ridiculous. Strap those babies onto your feet and take off surfing.

Surfing or skidding across the water at 100mph haha. I'm with everyone else tony MP40ES/ MP60ES is the way to go!

I'd love to and if I like the effect of the MP40 when I see it, I could consider going that way and just dial it down if needed. I really want to just run one down the long side of the tank.

Well in hindsight I might actually be happy enough with things the way they are after all. The trick was dialing back the sump return to account for the flow diverted into the frag tank once that is online and that lowered the water level just enough.

Yeah the wave looks dang impressive I'd run with it man.

Delphinus 10-21-2010 04:26 PM

In a phantom message, someone mentioned (or maybe it was just one of the voices in my head, which would explain why I can't find it now, but it sure sounded like Brett :p) that I should post the link of the video in here.

Just so that the voices in my head don't get too angry with me, I'm posting the link here too now:

Oooohhh haha. Yeah after I posted that I checked your build thread and it dawned on me that you didn't send me that link direct last night...it was from your thread. Oops =)

globaldesigns 10-21-2010 05:04 PM

watched the video, and I think that wave is great, and the wave boxes are not that bad so I tend to agree with you Tony, just leave it.

Rbacchiega 10-21-2010 07:54 PM

the wave looks good Tony! I'd stay with what you got for now...eventually if you want to upgrade/switch out you can....having said that...the MP40 on my tank kicks the crap out of any other powerhead I've ever owned.

That's the beauty of waveboxes though. They aren't the same as even the vortechs. I don't think the vortechs (even tho they can create waves) shift the entire water column like a wavebox.

hmmmm, I am not sure about that, you should see the wave I can produce if I want, and seeing the undertows created and crap that comes out of rock. Problem is that I don't like putting that type of stress on the tank, big wave back and forth that is.

But those wavebox's tony have are doing a good job though, so why spend more money if it is working. I wouldn't!

ALBERTA REEF 10-22-2010 05:03 PM

I have to say Vortechs are the way to go. From K4'S to MP40W ES'S it's like night and day in comparison. If you are up in my end of town you are welcome to check out the MP40W ES'S in action.

fishytime 10-23-2010 03:55 AM

vortechs are more versitile:wink:
