Questions about Potter's Angel
Anyone had one of these? I know you have ha ha!
Wondering on experiences.... reef friendly or not? I see pics with them in reef systems.... but read that they are coral eaters. I want one but need more "hands-on info" from you guys. Thanks! |
Marie has a pair of them and if I remember correctly they do pick at her corals.
|
Just added one to my mixed 170g, he joined the school nice and fast and so far has not touched any coral, I'm sure this will change though. My Coral Beauty did the same thing, I can live with the nipping though.

i have had mine for about a year and have never seen any coral nipping.

Clams

Did it nip your clams too? I think I saw clams in your tank.... |

I have had my potters in my 60gal for 8 months with no issues. the tank is a mixed reef with zoa's, sps, some mushrooms and a clam. He has never nipped. The biggest issue with potters is getting them to eat. In all honesty mine rarely takes given food of mysis, ocean plakton or brine. The little guy is as fat and happy as can be. Like all angels, its a risk adding them to a reef set up

Yep, I have 2 and they both chow down on corals....any corals :D

Do they do detrimental damage to corals or just certain types... Sps LPS... etc. |

Hmmm
Am I better off with a Flame Angel?

They are hit and miss, same with the flames. You'll only know if you have a problem if you try one and observe something. Most potters and flames are usually 75% safe (a statistic that I just completely made up all on very own!)
I have had one for years. I have never observed any nipping on either corals or clams. However, that said .... I have not been able to keep SPS of ANY kind for about the same length of time. 2 + 2 = ?? I'm not sure. It's a coincidence hard to ignore ... but it could just be coincidence. Drawing a parallel like that without hard evidence is called Texas Sharpshooter Syndrome. For sure, the clams have been safe though. My advice is go for it, but be prepared to change your mind if you have to. |
