Male clown in the "doghouse"

I dunno what he did to **** her off so much but my male clown is suddenly not allowed back in the anemone. She chases him away when he tries to go back home.

They have been a pair for about 2 years. They grew up from 1/2" babies in a bubbletip anemone and about a year and a half ago moved to the current carpet anemone. They have always been together until suddenly last night she kicked him out!

The anemone is about 12-14" across so lots of room. Any ideas?

Maybe he got a little too friendly with the new angel? I dunno though, his girl is pretty hot and the angel doesn't really look like his type

Maybe she heard how you were treating me and is done with men?

Tossing that out there as I know you're looking for meaningful responses

Flash 09-15-2010 07:14 PM

BAHAHA!!!

i have no idea... but i had clowns do the same thing!

Funny cause my fiancee's theory was that she is "probably done with men"

Did she ever forgive him and allow him to come home?

Flash 09-15-2010 07:17 PM

he was allowed to come close... but she claimed it.. they would visit above the hosting spot.. but no he was never allowed back in! lol

GreenSpottedPuffer 09-15-2010 07:20 PM

Wow this is crazy...

I just watched as he fought his way back in to the anemone and proceeded to kick her out! It didn't last all that long though...she is much, much bigger and kicked him back out.

I don't like all this domestic violence happening in my tank!

They ever have offspring? wondering if there's some outstanding child support...something like that?

Leah 09-15-2010 07:26 PM

Maybe he has decided to change into a she.

No child support yet. They have always been together. I hope they work it out cause I really don't think its fair that she gets to keep the anemone.

If they don't I might take it away from both of them for a while until they appreciate all they have. Not that many clowns get a large healthy carpet to call home ;)

Ohhh! I like this theory! You never know...he is prettier than her.

Flash 09-15-2010 07:29 PM

HA!

GreenSpottedPuffer 09-15-2010 07:32 PM

Now I am seeing that she is swimming with him around the edges of the anemone but if he tries to go IN the anemone he is chased out. He went to the top corner of the tank and she actually came out to see him which is strange because until now I have never seen them leave the anemone more than a few inches and only to grab food. I think they may be trying to work it out. She isn't ready to have him come home yet but at least she misses him :D

Another interesting thing is that when I feed mysis, he will take it in his mouth and spit it out into the anemone while she will just eat the mysis herself. So i bet the anemone likes him better

In all seriousness this is kind of sad to see. Interesting too. They have never had any problems that I ever saw.

Myka 09-15-2010 07:38 PM

Have you checked for eggs? He is supposed to look after the eggs, but maybe she is confused if it is her first spawn.

Leah 09-15-2010 07:39 PM

Counseling perhaps. Or may be they are having OTHER problems.

Yes there are eggs and yes I do think she is confused and being protective. He seems to know he is suppose to care for them but is having a hard time getting too close.

Im sure it will work out eventually.

That would be my guess as well. Being a new Mommy she may not know proper protocol. Give her time and she'll probably figure it out. Either that or she's just a bitch!

Better hope that the angel is not a lawyer or all he'll is going to break loose and the angel will end up with the nem.
My black clown actually picked on her mate so bad she killed him in about a week.

untamed 09-15-2010 10:13 PM

Are they dramatically different in size? My couple remains happy and reproductive...producing a new batch of young every 17 days or so...but the male is less than 1/2 the size of the female.

Milad 09-15-2010 11:16 PM

divorce is never pretty, shes probably going to get the anemone in the settlement. the women always do.

reefwars 09-15-2010 11:21 PM

after two years together my female cinnamon clown killed her male just a few weeks ago, the next day i purchased a large carpet i had pending for them lol i did get another male and she gave him hell the first week he never had a fin left, now their buddies and hes got it all back but hes not allowed in the nem and is slowly being allowed to travel further in the tank:) good luck with the eggs:):)

GreenSpottedPuffer 09-16-2010 02:19 AM

Thanks for the humorous replies!

The male is maybe half the size of the female. Maybe. Probably a little less.

Got home this evening and you would never know there had been a problem. The male is now protecting/cleaning the eggs and the female is patrolling the anemone and keeping all other fish away.

Seems to have worked itself out.
