AKA. "Indian Flasher Barb"
AKA. "Roseline Shark" It is a barb. Pretty common/good tank-mate for tetras and stuff and a community fish. its one of the less aggressive barbs. Also pricier. Active, colourful, schoolers. Pretty cool fish actually! New fish of yours? |
A barb! Cool, thanks!!
Saw them at Georgia Aquarium in with clown loaches. Not a new fish for me (not "yet" anyhow, haha. I want some now though! I have to fix up my FW setup first though, it's kind of a hair algae disaster at the moment.) |
agreed with above.
PS they like to be in groups |
They do like to live in groups...however 2 do NOT do well in a tank...too much picking on each other......beautiful fish though!
|
I have tried groups of 5 & 6 of this barb and always end up with one. Others seem to have luck in groups but in my 125g they would fight, I have 1 large now and he is beautiful.

Rosaline shark. Have one in our freshwater. When fed bloodworms, his red is gorgeous...Fun fish!!!
|
Found a whole bunch today on my LFS tripping. But didn't buy any. My FW tank needs a workover before I put any new fish in there. I might pick up a few after that which gives me time to save up for them. Wow, you guys aren't kidding when you said they're pricey.

They were selling at $20 each at the one store that had them.
|
I remember when they first came out, they were going for $40+
|
I have 5!! I had my previous 5 die to ich when introduced by other fish!
They do better in a longer tank!! My first group of 5 all got to be about 5.5 inches!! And they are lightning fast!! I have seen themfrom anywhere between 25 and 80 bucks also these are not barbs!! They have be reclassified ! Hey are Now called puntias dennisonii. I did a bunch of research a while back when I was thinking of breeding them!! When I did the research the only thing I could find on breeding was that their was no recorded case of this in Captivity!! I think has changed tho as they are far more readilly available now! |
ElGuappo is right.... I remember hearing about the reclassification! Good catch!
Tony - $20+ seems to be pretty average price for them in pet stores. Up here... from 1.5-3" they seem to cost anywhere from 20-40 each. |
This fish is such unethical buy. It's pretty much the same situation as the Bangaii Cardinal, only there is no grassroots hobbyist movement to rectify the situation.
|
They are in every store here in Lethbridge now. They seems like a really nice little fish, actice, easy to keep, and moderatly priced compared to what they used to be.
