Bill Wahn is back (17,000 gallons)
Been a long time but it looks like the drama is gone and we're going to be able to come along for the ride as this thing matures.

Drama? Man, I need to get out more. By "get out" I mean, of course, cruise and peruse more reef sites.
That's, ah, wow. What can I say. That's a lot of water. But it's so well done it's the stuff dreams are made of!! |
Original thread is here btw. Looks like the pics have been restored too.

WOW, thanks for posting that..sorta "forgot" I was a member there......from years ago! Phew, another reef site to visit! Gotta love it!

He's got more skimmate than the volume of water in my display tank. Way too big. I'd sooner buy scuba gear and a trip to Bali
|
As impressive a planning and logistical feat as it is, there's just something that rubs me the wrong way about look of that tank which I can't quite pin down. Perhaps it's the rather bland brick wall facade of the front of it.
I have a feeling that, like many truly monster-sized systems, it will morph into more of a FOWLR than a full blown reef. The time it takes to maintain a reef that big is simply too much for a single private individual no matter how dedicated. |

Unlike some systems that are private, this guy deals with high end equipment, and I suspect that setting up the dosers to deal with the demand wouldn't be too hard, or out of his budget. I also think he set the bar real high, and the Tang police will have some new standards! LOL |
One might think the reef won't look good starting with rockwork such as that. Then you look back at how Atlantis Marine World started (about 20,000 gallons) and they also used big blocks. Limestone I think and now it's in my opinion the nicest captive reef ever. Once these tanks grow in it's OVER.
I'm not sure how many people maintain that tank but I think Bill will be able to pull it off. I'm not down with the actual outer decor but I doubt I'd pay much attention if I was a guest! |
all i have to say is "................................... "
Guess its got me speechless. |
Sigh.................
|
I guess I better start saving now so I can afford a tank that size before I'm 80.
|
Jeebus what a tank........you know you got money when you get a new Ferrari for x-mas present

I now don't feel so crazy for putting such a big tank in my basement.
|
If I was him I would but sharks in there or something rather than having a reef.
|
quote from Bill "As for how many gallons , the main tank is 17,953 gallons . When I filled the system from dry it took 21,463 gallons total to fill everything and get it running"
Holy crap! I thought Chingichai from reefcentral had a sweet tank. It's going to be hard to top this one. |

Man-o-man quite a tank, can you imagine going diving every time you put in a frag?
