I'm in shock
My lights came on today and my CBB (copper band butterfly) who I have had for 4 years and who survived marine velvet and copper treatment last year, died today  He was eating and acting fine yesterday so I'm not sure why I found him dead today
So sorry to hear that Laurie
I am so sorry :(
You need a hug????
Aww, that sucks Laurie. Sorry to hear
So sorry to hear this Laurie. It really sucks to lose a fish.
Thanks guys, it really sucks loosing a fish even more so when you can't figure out why.
:( *hugs*
That's really sad, sorry to hear about your loss...
Another who's sorry to hear that Laurie. I've never had a fish 4 years...a long time for sure.
Sorry to hear Laurie. At 4 years he was in very small company. I lost mine very similarly, almost 3 years and just poof, one day he was gone, just like that. I was depressed for weeks, so I know how you feel right now!!
aww that sucks laurie it was just last week you were telling us the story of him and i was commenting how nice he was:):)
gettin another butterfly?? |
I know how you must feel. Mine passed away several weeks ago after a long while living healthy in my tank. They seem fine and then BAM! I'm never buying another one again. I really believe they're better left out in the ocean.
Sorry to hear about your butterfly!!
typical Cbb...
sorry to hear about this. |
 Sorry Laurie
Thanks everyone, definately feeling a little depressed about it, not sure if I'll try another one or not as they have such bad track records  Might try a file fish for aptasia control.
Do it they are amazing to watch sooo ugly but graceful mine can swim on it's back and sides to eat off the powerhead at night he blends in with rock and coral and changes colour to blend in just shades but cool fish to watch:)
I was under the impression the filefish weren't reef safe?
Then again, my CBB ate 2 of my clams and left the 3rd alone like it didn't exist... |
i dont think most are i only know of one, its the matted filefish and it still may nip at stuff so not sure if its labeled reef safe, but mine cleaned out my aiptasia and doesnt touch anything plus its well fed and will eat anything dropped in the tank ive had him for five or six months now :)
heres a pic of mine:) http://i924.photobucket.com/albums/a...g?t=1281981124 http://i924.photobucket.com/albums/a...g?t=1281981124 http://i924.photobucket.com/albums/a...g?t=1281981124 http://i924.photobucket.com/albums/a...g?t=1281981124 although my aiptasia problem is gone in my display i took some newly aiptasia free rock and put it in my 33 and with in a week or two it was back, so i think it eats it because ive witnessed it but scares the rest from coming out again untill its safe or their hungry or who knows:) |
My FF ate my aptasia took him a while but he did it he hasn't touch anything else that I know of and there is a lot I wish he would eat
I think filefish mostly eat/nip sps corals not so much softies/lps. Probably eat shrimp too but I don't have any shrimp so I'm not worried about that.

As for the reason, Copper banded Butterfly like achilles and powder blue tangs and several other fish up and die for no apparent reason. Be grateful that you were lucky to have her with you and enjoy her for as long as you did. |
How long do they live?? because if you got it as adult it might have been already old and if you have it for 4 years, it might just have died from old age?
