bulbs from sun aquatics

Hi All,

You may be aware that I started selling bulbs on this forum a while ago. We have decided to become a commercial operation and we operate under the name Sun Aquatics.

We mainly focus on Metal Halide Bulbs & Ballast. We have been in the market for 3 months and we are getting excellent feedback about our products.

As most of you may know JB NY on RC has been doing some independant research on 250 watts SE MH Bulbs. We decided to send him a bulb so that we could get some compariosn with other bulbs in the market. JB was kind enough to include his bulbs in his comparison and he has posted his results on his website. The link to his website is provided for your information. Our bulbs are marked as SUN10K

http://www.cnidarianreef.com/lamps.cfm

Our bulbs seem to be doing well compared to most bulbs in the market. It also produces a beautiful color in our opinion.

Our bulbs are priced at half of the nearest competitor in the comparison.

We are launching many more prodcuts in the Future (This Christmas). We hope yu'll find our products attractive.

Thanks

Cheers

Just2Bad 12-02-2003 06:10 PM

Have you try your ballast with x10 ????? are they causing noise on the circuit so they need a noise filter ?????

venkiw 12-04-2003 10:27 AM

All Electronic Ballasts in the market cause noise with X10 devices. Getting a filter is a good idea if you have an X10.

Thanks

Will you be announcing local distributors for these products soon?

Will they be marking up prices drastically or will still be 10 or 15%?

venkiw 12-04-2003 04:38 PM

We are trying to keep them to 10 - 15%. So the pricing advantage is not lost.

Hey Venki, any response to whether or not the 250W ballasts are ready to ship?

If so, Coffeeman do you want to split the shipping as I'd like to order two for myself.

Perhaps we could organize a group order for Greater Vancouver if Venki is willing to give us a group discount?

UnderWorldAquatics 01-06-2004 06:00 AM

Unfortunately at this time the ballasts are not ready for shipping, as soon as they are ready for shipping, I will post, when, and where they will be available. Thanks for your patience...

I believe they are selling out so fast they are afraid of putting it on their website. Should be there shortly after distribution is in place (may be a few weeks).

How about a "best guess" as to when they will be ready?

And UnderWorld, are you a dealer for Venki and SunAquatics?

And lastly, what is the expected price of the 250W eBallasts?

UnderWorldAquatics 01-08-2004 06:42 PM

ballasts should be shipping around mid febuary, pricing will be figured out shortly, well under $200 retail

Wayner,

I can recommed these bulbs to work fine with the ballast.

I'll be introducing a ballast similar to the one you posted for under CAD$100 in the near future.

Cheers

As mentioned, these are distributor prices that Venki was offering the public, he was offering product at these prices to generate some public awareness...that stage is finished and product is now being offered through retail locations. Comparable electronic ballasts "wholesale" for $230-$268, retail should be around $175-$185 or close to...

Perhaps this may explain why some of us are confused. Kyle your telling us the bulb prices have gone up, but only a short time prior Venki stated they'll be the same as his intro prices. So at least I'm confused.

Old Guy 01-09-2004 05:10 PM

I bought a couple of 250's from J&L yesterday  . John stated that they will run out of bulb's at the introductory price within a few days so if you want to save, act now  .

UnderWorldAquatics 01-09-2004 05:58 PM

^ What he said...
The first order of bulbs at J&L were a promo order,(special). I guess Venki's key words were "We are introducing" Sorry for any confusion, simply put, they are still really inexpensive... If they were sold retail for the previous introductory prices, no expenses would get covered and the bulbs would be no longer.

Acro 01-09-2004 06:26 PM

OK understood, I geuss I just figured if it was an introductory price, J&L would have introduced the new product line on their webpage and the introductory prices. Kyle you are correct in saying the quoted prices you've mentioned are descent. So long as the bulbs stand the test of time. Which includes customer support, expected life of the bulbs and overall success of the animals supported under them. Now to suggest the price is better then others on the market can only be validated with long term success. Don't get me wrong as hobbiest I think we all welcome better pricing and new products. With that said $75 for one bulb is still a descent amount of money. Someone not in the hobby would still think we're nuts to pay that much.

Quinn 01-09-2004 06:44 PM

What I don't get is why there are three levels of distribution here...

UnderWorldAquatics 01-09-2004 06:44 PM

^ couldnt have wrote it better myself...
especially the "nuts" part...lol

um because its normal, Venkiw (manufactuer or Canadian rep) to UWA (disturbitor) and the store (retailer)

nothing unusaual at all except for the limited number of distrubitors for such a large area.
