Sps side project

This my new tank, just a little sps tank. I have a mixed tank now and I don't want to keep sps with my softies. The tank is 36(L)x 24(W)x 18(H) but only 16" of water. 12mm starphire rimless. I am going to be running a Sifigoi infinity xr6 single 250watt halide with the ACLS. I was thinking of running a
20k mh bulb as the actinic and having the 4 T5HO bulbs as my day light bulbs. The ACLS allows me to dim the mh up and down. What do you guys and girls think? Thanks Jay, here is a pick of the new tank.

Cool...like the dimable feature for the lights!

reefcanada 08-16-2010 04:02 AM

All done

The new sump is done and the tank is in it's final place. now I just have to wait for the silicone to cure and it will be good to go. Here are some more pictures. With the night light as well and all of the rock going in the tank. Enjoy

Someone held their breath cutting that one. You nail it on the first try?

reefcanada 08-16-2010 05:16 AM

Yup, when you spend 8 hrs a day doing that, you get kind of good at it. I was a little worried as it is starphire.

Delphinus 08-16-2010 06:30 AM

Looks awesome! :)

michika 08-16-2010 01:23 PM

Sexy, very sexy!

reefcanada 08-20-2010 03:10 AM

Thanks guys and gals, This has been one of the longest weeks ever. I just built the tank last Friday and I would like to put water in it. But I have one more week to go. Every time I walk by it I think I could add water, it should be fine. But I know better than anyone that I have to wait. I got a pair of tunze nano streams for it today a 6045 and a 6025. Lastlight has been kind enough to show me how to mod them, so I can get a little more flow out of them. One more week and I will have pics with water in it.

mseepman 08-20-2010 03:22 AM

This is looking like a really nice side project. i agree that SPS does do best without mixing with softies.

Gotta love that eurobrace too! Someone does some nice work!!

See ya this weekend...I've been stocking up on beer. :)

I had nothing to do with it. Jay did a pretty good job on it tho.

So someone get a little impatient and got'er filled. If that's all the rock you end up with in there it's going to be bangin' once you have some good sized colonies in there.

reefcanada 08-27-2010 12:48 PM

Thanks alot, yes that is all the rock going in the tank. I would like to find a school of small fish for the tank. I am looking for something the size of neon tetras, I am not sure if that is possible with salt water?

Delphinus 08-27-2010 12:58 PM

Hey Jay, there are a couple different species of cardinals that look a bit like tetras and should make a good choice for a small schooling fish. One of them is the threadfin cardinal. There is another one, I can't remember the name of them but they are another cardinal about the same size as a tetra but with more of a candystripe pattern .. Red Coral had some in a few months ago in that tiny cube they have setup in there .. not much to go on but someone remembers what those were??

reefcanada 08-31-2010 03:13 AM

update

I figured out what small fish I wish to add, Aioliops megastigma. They are mini dart gobies, I have 30 on order. I add a few snails today as well as a some cheato to my fuge.

reefcanada 09-07-2010 03:07 AM

I think I am full

I have all of my sps moved over to thier new home. I don't think there is room fo much more. The Tank is still a little cloudy, I think it is from not enough bacteria in the tank to feed the bio-pellets. This should clear up soon. Thanks and Enjoy

How are you cutting that? With a cnc machine or a laser?

Must be nice to have access to something like that. My brother in law is in the glass business but I don't think he has anything that can do that.

Cheers,
Vic

reefcanada 09-07-2010 05:06 AM

It's a cnc machine. The shop I work at has all the cool toys. makes building tanks very nice. I am not sure they use lasers on glass, I know a few shops in town have water jet cutters. But you don't get a finished edge with those.

Veng68 09-07-2010 05:17 AM

Could be plasma? I had a friend who used to cut out glass signs using a plasma machine.

I could be wrong........ seeing as I am not in the business.

I wish I had access to something like that......... maybe I should suggest it to my brother in law ;)

Cheers,
Vic

update

Just a little update, the tank is clearing up with all the sps added. The corals are looking great under the new lights. I saw my new blenny today, I picked up a little twin spot blenny. I hope all of my mini dart gobies come in tomorrow. I will get some new pics up soon.

lastlight 09-09-2010 02:21 AM

That scape with the largish colonies will look bangin' with a school of fish running amok through there. 30 though...man it's gonna be a frenzy when it's feeding time.

reefcanada 09-09-2010 03:50 AM

new pics

I am trying to get better pics out of my camera, here are few. And one for Skimmer King. I am having alot of fun with this little tank. I call it my nano as it sits right next a 400 gal tank. So it looks like a nano. Any one thinking of adding a wavebox, do it. They are worth the money. Enjoy!

lastlight 09-09-2010 04:01 AM

That looks a lot like my skimmer does right now...I totally love my 160 and all it's got to work on is some dirty old rock.

reefcanada 09-09-2010 04:26 AM

They are a very good skimmer and you can't go wrong with the price.

deacon hemp 09-09-2010 06:33 AM

The coral looks like a nice sized colony of montipora undata.

reefcanada 09-12-2010 12:03 AM

new fish

I have a few new fish in my tank. The mini dart gobies never came in. I decided to go shopping today and found some nano gobies. Coryphopterus personatus, the masked goby. I got 12 of them. I also got a pair of Stonogobiops nematodes, Hi Fin Red Banded Goby. They have not come out yet, so here are a few pics of the masked gobies.

mseepman 09-18-2010 05:40 PM

This tank is just looking awesome!!

reefcanada 09-18-2010 10:16 PM

Thanks Guys, I have had to start doseing already. A few of the sps are already starting to encrust the plugs. I am very happy with way this tank turned out. I am not to happy with the rimless tank, I am picking snails up off the floor every morning.
