Not a clue what it is but it looks pretty cool!

Frozenocean 07-31-2010 03:20 AM

An encrusted bulkhead that fell off???

delo978 07-31-2010 03:24 AM

lol no.....I just have a plain sand base about 4 inches. I do however have a sand sifting snail never got any ID of it other than sand sifting snail, it's white and stays buried that's all i know.

bvlester 07-31-2010 03:57 AM

It could be a worm that made that there are some worms that use their spit to make tunnels bonding grains of sand together. They can also adhere rock to one another so they do not move easily I have some but I have never seen any thing like that in my tank. I do know that when I change mt aqua scape some of the rocks are stuck together.

not that you can tell what size it is by comparing it to my PLTA but it's about 3-4inches in diameter. I'm completely lost....lol

Kevotron 07-31-2010 04:22 AM

Looks like u have a whirlpool black hole in ur tank :P
any missing creatures lately ? :P

fkshiu 07-31-2010 04:36 AM

WTF?

My money's on the bulkhead theory.

TheKid 07-31-2010 04:42 AM

Working in a pet store I saw these lots , I think they are made by the spagehhti worm

I have lots of spaghetti worms and I have never seen this in 4 years.

Weird thing. Have you tried moving it or flipping it over?

delo978 07-31-2010 08:45 AM

nope haven't touched it yet was gonna wait till tank clean up tomorrow. Should I move it or just leave it for a bit and see what happens?

hillbillyreefer 08-01-2010 03:09 PM

I'd leave it and see what happens. I like to live on the wild side, lol.

My bet is on the snail. Some snails make pretty unique egg cases. I have seen interesting egg collars off the coast of Galiano Island made by the Moon snail, they look somewhat similar.

Bloodasp 08-01-2010 08:05 PM

Typed in every word in google i could think to describe what that looked like to me with no hits. Cause I 've seen them before, I just can't remember what they were. Finally the guy above mentioned egg collar or sand collar and i got hits which looked pretty similar to what you have.

Trocar61 08-01-2010 08:45 PM

I think it looks like a crop circle...

Reef_kid 08-01-2010 10:51 PM

These are snail eggs. If you search on google, "MOON SNAIL EGGS" (pacific west coast species of snail illustrates it very well) they are very interesting. I am not sure the species of sand sifting snails you have.

cheers

What is the size please? Dinner plate? Loonie? dime?

Bloodasp 08-02-2010 03:16 AM

it does say in the thread it is about 3-4 inches

fishoholic 08-02-2010 03:54 AM

Does sort of look like moon snail eggs

justinl 08-04-2010 07:41 PM

snail egg case would be my first guess, but what kind of snails do you have in the tank?
