A relatively cheap way to keep your aquarium cool

It can be surprising how effective a fan can be at cooling your water temperature, especially when positioned between your water surface and light source.

If you don't think you need a chiller, but would like to lower your temps a few degrees, this might be your economical and aesthetically pleasing solution.

I have the 4-fan and I would replace it in a heartbeat if it broke on me. Even on the hottest days the thing keep my reef a perfect 79.

Thanks for chiming in, Brett.

They do have one weakness, though. The clamps won't fit on all aquarium frames. I'll take a measurement at the shop tomorrow.

What's the noise level like?

Fan

I paid $10 for an 6" fan.... it does not have fancy clips but sits nicely on my filter.... blows over surface and works like a charm.

In My apartment the tank used to hit 86C in summer but... now always under 80C.

They certainly aren't silent but they also aren't running all the time. Mine run for about 5 minutes every hour I'd guess? Haven't exactly paid too much attention since the noise isn't a huge deal to me. Having two kids may play a part in that!

I put my fan on the same timer as my lights so it is only on when my lights are on.... as in when most heat is generated.

A nice inexpensive dual stage controller and one of these fans would be a dream for me, and solve my temp problems for sure.

i have a 6" clip on worth $8 from wally world over my sump and 4 computer fans in my canopy... cools to the point my heater runs on hot days... i have seen these azoo fans in town but were far above what your charging.... i didnt like the way they are mounted right on the tank...

Thats a smoking price. They are raping you down here. The only store that sells them is chargin 2x that amount.

Blue World Aquariums 07-17-2010 01:07 AM

The tank mounts are 1/2" wide exactly.

I got one of these from Spencer and it has dropped my tank temp from ~85 to 78-79 with the warmer weather we've had here lately.

I have the 2 fan unit on my 50 gallon.

these are good fans for sure, it would do a job if your tank in basement. I have four of these and my tank is on main floor, could not keep up on hot days so i have to get chiller. Before i got it run like 24 hours and no problem but the dc adapter will get hot

howdy20012002 07-20-2010 06:08 AM

are they continuous or can you set them to turn on when it hits a certain temperature??

lastlight 07-20-2010 06:13 AM

on/off with a switch. i have mine plugged into a ranco controller.
