Platinum clownfish, like them or hate them

What do you think of the color and the pattern of platinum clownfish?

ponokareefer 06-09-2010 09:33 PM

I like the normal coloration much better. orange>>>white

Kenzy 06-09-2010 09:38 PM

What do the platinum ones look like again? All these designer fish and corals are getting easy to forget.

anaitari 06-09-2010 11:35 PM

I have to agree with Kenzy on this one.

saltwatermaniac 06-10-2010 01:20 AM

Chaloupa 06-10-2010 01:30 AM

I love them and can't wait til I can get a pair or so. Very very cool!

mark 06-10-2010 02:14 AM

looks like a regular clown with a skin problem

petlaur 06-10-2010 03:56 AM

Really, really dislike their look.

I do not think we should screw with mother nature.

It is one thing to breed exotic variants of FW fish like guppies and angelfish which are dozens of generations separated from wild stock.

SW fish should not be monkeyed with.

Not such a fan of the Platinums but like the Snowcasos and really love the Grade A Picassos. I have been trying to get my hands on some, but many places are reluctant to bring them in due to the price.

I have been buying some misbars lately. There are certain shops that get neat misbars that they lump in with thier regular ORA clowns.

I dont like any of these white modified clowns. Clowns that are darker (like black occelaris, onyx, or dark percs) are ok... but white ones a are yuck. Some of the dark ones are more often naturally occuring anyways.

I really like them! They have two at Big Al's right now unfortunatly $400 each :(

The Wyoming White and Platinum are pretty much the same, I like the Platinum a bit more because their fins tend to grow-in the black color a bit more than the Wyoming White.

Having such a white color does make parasite treatment very tough thou LOL

zeddy 06-13-2010 10:58 PM

do not like it. normal is better

This variant is a result of selective breeding in captivity, these aren't wild fish. This is exactly the same process that you referred to with FW guppies and Angels. It takes thousands of offspring to come up with these oddities, even if you breed two of these, you probably won't get this color variation as a result. Catching fish with cyanide or dying Anemones is screwing with nature.
