My Tank shot as of today 11/06
|
Why when I upload a pic to the galery it can never be seen when I link it using the img buttons?

What's happening is you're linking to the page where the picture is, but not the picture itself. I'm a techie and I've been told that my technical explanations suck, so sorry if I'm not making any sense. What you need to do is right-click on the picture itself, and select "properties." In here will be the URL for the picture (not the page). Copy this, and paste that into the IMG tags. Making any sense??? Hope it helps at any rate. |

Heh, thats a LOT of coraline :)
|
I have to clean it off the front and sides at least once a week or I can't see throught. I was cleaning my PHs and it was coming off in chunks. I thought of seeing if anyone wanted any but by that time it was all in fresh water.
If anyone does PM me and I save some next time J |
nice tank man. Whats your secret for all the coraline algae? High calcium and good lighting? My coraline algae looks nothing like that. However, I don't want to have to clean it up all the time
|
That's a great looking reef J
Yep, dido on the purple stuff-wow, must be fun cleaning those PH's  |
Nice tank J!!
|
Very nice Tank
Mucho nice tank Jakets. Silly question, actually two questions. Firt what is that pinky colored coral just left of center with the sun polyps beside it.
Second and it may be stupid. Is coraline on the PH's not a good thing. Should you not let it grow on your PH's. Again nice tank George |
Hey George,
It's a Carnation Coral (Dendronephthya). It's a non-photosynthetic filter feeder. During the day it is quite small, about the size of a baseball. Yes I would consider Coraline algae on PH to be a good thing until it starts to choke off the flow of water  J I have seen Carnation corals at both J&L's and Hidden Reef. I know hidden Reef has two right now. |
Nice tank! What's your setup like?

How long have you had the carnation? I've read that they are impossible to keep but would be interested to hear about actual experiences from hobbiests. Anyone else have experience with them good or bad? |
I've only had it about a month and it has been doing very well. It tends to react to feeding time and expands so at around 7:30 it is fully extended and all polyps are out. So that is when I feed it usually Cyclop-eeze, Byrne, or DT's

Jason, any update on your carnation? I bought one 3 months ago. So far so good. I'd love to see a closeup of yours. They aren't suppose to make it past 4 months.

Hey Sam, Wow this is an old thread. Unfortunately the carnation didn't make it. It slowly started to desinigrate until there was nothing left.
J |
Sorry to here your carnation didn't make it. The tank is very impressive.
I ordered a carnation around Christmas, when I opened the bag it smelled really bad. It didn't make it but I left the rock in the tank and now a month and a half later there are bits of it coming back. I keep my fingers crossed that it will recover. Keith |
Great looking tank. Here's a question.
http://www.canreef.com/photopost/dat...with_mixed_bag Is this some kind of carnation coral as well? |
That looks like a nepthea Snappy. Orange tree coral. Somewhat hardier.
|
Thanks, that's good news. I bought that rock because it had several small sponges(orange, black & cream coloured), sun polyps and that yellow stuff. It looked good in the store so I just had to have it. Thought it made a good mixture for my tank that with any luck might spread a bit.

Curious as to whether SamW has had luck with the dendronepthya? I know that the Waikiki Aquarium has/had a study going with very little success rates. One of the theories they had was that the speed of the current that brought food to them was an important factor.
