A huge thanks to Ken for being so thoughtful and going out of his way to ship it to me

Levi

*Edit NM, apparently its called a Orange spotted goby who would of guessed lol.

BlueWorldAquatic 05-01-2010 02:18 AM

Christy, you can thank fishoholic for it. She mentioned you were looking forever for one when she saw it in our store.

It's a Red Spotted Blenny (Istiblennius Chysospilos)

Glad it made it there ok.

Myka 05-01-2010 02:26 AM

Very nice!! Does he eat prepared foods at all?

BlueWorldAquatic 05-01-2010 02:45 AM

It should do fine in any established tank with any types of algae.

The few we have left in our holding tanks are eating frozen, and seaweed.

We have spotted ours in our showtank chasing after mysis also.

If I wasn't leaving out of province for a month on Sunday I just might order one. They are cool!!

fishoholic 05-01-2010 03:00 AM

BTW Christy, last Sunday I was supposed to pm you and tell you that Ken didn't forget about you and that he'd be shipping your fish to you soon  I guess you figured that out by now  Oops! Sorry I forgot.

Glad you got your fish ok.

Myka they are really cool blennies but they love to jump and go into overflows :twised:

LOL, no worries! And thanks to you for letting Ken know I was on the hunt for one of these! He's a bit shy so far but I love him already. Its fun looking for him in the tank and then finding him holed up right in front of me, staring at me the whole time I'm looking. Cracks me up every time

I've put netting over top of the tank so far, its some sort of "keep fish in and birds out" type netting with only a 3/4" opening. I've stretched it some so the holes are even smaller. It hardly reduces the lighting at all and hopefully will keep him from ejecting himself out of the tank :twised:

Chaloupa 05-01-2010 05:37 AM

HOLY Gorgeous fish!!! Makes me want one!

Leah 05-01-2010 12:34 PM

Christy,

Wow! Nice fishy

Sounds like the netting should work  Ken is wonderful, I knew he'd have no problem getting your fish to you. I'm happy to hear you like him so much  I know I love looking for my little fish in my big tank, it's always fun when you find them.

hillegom 05-01-2010 02:49 PM

Nice fish. Especially if he has character.
Christy, where did you find that netting? How did you install it over the tank?
Any pics available?
Thanks

noirsphynx 05-01-2010 03:36 PM

Gorgeous Christy!

My husband brought it home from work but its commonly found at garden centers. I don't know if you guys have Buckerfields there but they have it too (they're a feed supply/garden/yard store.

Currently I just have it strategically draped over the tank using a couple of brackets as tightening points. I'm going to build a wooden frame to staple it onto so I can remove it when I need to. No pics yet, its pretty ghetto looking right now.

Last night I had a dream that the poor little bugger gillnetted himself trying to jump out so I think I might be on the hunt for some smaller mesh (for my own sanity at least )

Delphinus 05-01-2010 04:08 PM

You know you're too deep into it when your dreams involve finding ways your fish have found to commit harikari .. I know at least 20% of my dreams tend to be nightmares like that too these days. Not good. At least this a good relaxing hobby to relieve stress.

Lance 05-01-2010 04:46 PM

My dreams tend to involve beautiful mermaids coming on to me but all I seem to do in the dream is check them out for white spots and pop eyes!

Flash 05-01-2010 06:10 PM

Bahahahahahaha! nice Lance!!!

I have to say my fish dreams are more like Christy's and Tony's

Come on Laurie. We know you dream about Mermen. After all, what could be better than a handsome man with gills. And as a bonus, he's easy to cook for: Mysis and pellets.

Skimmerking 05-02-2010 02:35 AM

PoonTang 05-02-2010 03:14 AM

Wow nice score Christy.

Lance 05-02-2010 04:01 AM

Yes Christy. Cute little guy!

BlueWorldAquatic 05-02-2010 01:00 PM

How's he doing Christy?

Has he colored up yet?

There is only one supplier I can get them from, and that's about once every 2 months.

Ken

Ken

He's doing very well. Haven't seen him eat yet (although I've seen him chomp at the water so he sees something worth eating). Unfortunately I had just cleaned the glass too so it will be a couple of days before it gets all gross with algae again. So far he's slowly migrating from his little corner, deeper into the tank. He is mostly just an observer but not hard to find with his bright orange spots. I think once he settles in and gets used to everything he'll feel more comfortable and roam around more. I forgot how they're just perchers and will stay in the same place for hours and hours. His colors are great, he's lost that "grey" look and is whiter and brighter so I think he's not quite as stressed.

What did you guys feed him at the store again?

BlueWorldAquatic 05-02-2010 03:38 PM

We saw him eat spiolina-brine with a vengance. Looks like he'll be a nice addition to the tank.

We have kids staring at him staring at the kids in our showtank all the time.

Him and the Flame Hawk keep the kids amused, funny as hell.

Ken - BWA
