Have seen some really nice frags on ebay, were little pricey though at a $1000 plus a polyp.
|
My rarest I think would have been my Red Planet which recently RTN'd on me :cry::cry: but my want list right now are nice, rare zoa's & paly's. Doug....I need some of those PPE!!

btw Dawn keep your eyes open for the Zoaholics thread.....I got something else you might like:wink: |
Rarest has to be the Rhizo Sp. I had for around 3 months until I came home to it melted under a giant piece of live rock that decided to murder it during the day...
Lots of "rare" zoas and chalices but what do you really consider rare? Is it rare because of market demand or rare because you never see it in peoples fish tanks? All I really want is a sunset monti. |

One i love, especially at night. No night pic, sorry.
http://i589.photobucket.com/albums/s...r/IMG_2906.jpg One so very tempting, but way to rich for our blood, at $1050 per eye. WOW http://i589.photobucket.com/albums/s...r/mymiami1.jpg |
Actually, something more like this:

Not sure how rare it is per se but it's one I hardly ever see available, Gorgonia ventilana. It's probably my favourite in my tank though:
http://i305.photobucket.com/albums/n...ventilana3.jpg It's a Caribbean species which is why you almost never see it as collection of anything from there is so heavily regulated (probably rightly so). But it's too bad because it's a super hardy photosynthetic gorg that loves the same flow and light conditions as SPS. One coral I wish I could have (but never will) is Diploria labyrinthiformis or maybe Diploria strigosa. Also Caribbean endemics, as far as I can tell, basically totally illegal to possess, period. :( I'll have to content myself with photos. http://coralpedia.bio.warwick.ac.uk/...hiformis01.JPG My obsession with Diploria made me try to content myself with the similar Pacific Platygyra coral, but that thing is miserably aggressive and takes down anything placed within 6" of it. I just noticed tonight it took out one of my favourite Acan's, literally gone overnight. Tempted to put the Platygyra up for sale, as neat as it is I'm tired of losing $40 frags because it got all territorial and sent out 8" sweepers to destroy them. :( |
where do you guys usually get these super rare corals? theres so many sps types i see that are just gorgeous and i never see them in stores. are they the type of thing that is usually bought from specialized vendors online?

rare/most wanted
I most want to find the real "PURPLE Monster"
My rarest probably Cyphastrea Decadia or... Meteor shower Cyphastrea, Montipora Setosa, 30K Lokani, Incredible Hulk Acro, Robins Egg Stag, Cali Tort, Oregon Tort, Rainbow Monti, Pink Watermelon Chalice, Lime in the Sky, Hawkins Echinata, Ok, thats enough, now I'm just bragging! Wanna trade? Keith. |

I'll get a pic tonight. Mine has a greener base than the parent colony (which RTN'd during a friend's tank transfer) - which had a white base with brilliant blue tips. There was another frag of it, but it fell and is mostly dead from what I hear.
When I move up to the big tank and haev better lighting, I'm hoping it'll colour up even more. Oooh, Bellina. Yeah, it was that or the Pearlberry. |
Crappy pics:
http://i290.photobucket.com/albums/l...k/P4204561.jpg http://i290.photobucket.com/albums/l...k/P4204560.jpg In my friend's tank the base is snow white and the tips are crazy blue. My light stinks, so it's blue with a greenish base. Here's my frag rack: http://i290.photobucket.com/albums/l...P4134553-1.jpg (Clockwise from top left corner) Deep purple montipora capricornis (grew from 1" x 1" piece to 7"+ across and 4" front to back in a year) Acropora jacquelinae (just sent off to a friend) Pearlberry The base of a sweet purple tip loripes Red planet chili peppers monti Hawkins Acropora speciosa (?) The A speciosa looks sweet under actinics: http://i290.photobucket.com/albums/l...k/P4204576.jpg Ponape birdsnest: http://i290.photobucket.com/albums/l...k/P4134555.jpg And finally, my little (2" across) Setosa!! (Thanks Paul of OC corals!!) http://i290.photobucket.com/albums/l...k/P4134558.jpg |
Wow that setosa has the craziest growth pattern!!!
