Euro-Reef

Well my roomie has had his new ES6-1 skimmer up and running for a week now! All Al and I can say is  wow!

These skimmers are the cat's ass, plug and play design, serious bubbles, and producing a rotten green skimate like mad

Both Al and I give this skimmer a "Two Fins Up"

Cheers- to all that helped him out in his decission

sweet  . what tank size is that running on? that is the exact skimmer i plan for my 75g

sumpfinfishe 10-25-2003 08:39 AM

It's running on a 60 with a 20 sump. Works like a freak'n charm!

aussiefishy 11-24-2003 03:47 AM

hgow about noise concern?? noisy? and will it be too strongly skimmed?

Quinn 11-24-2003 03:56 AM

That's an interesting point, one I've heard before but never thought too much about. I wonder if it might be a good thing to let some of that crud stay in the tank for a while. You know how they say that kids these days have so many allergies because we're all too clean... maybe our tanks are the same, and we need to let them wallow in filth for a bit, so to speak.

aussiefishy 11-24-2003 05:10 AM

yeah, i have done experiments with soft corals and goniopora, skimming does make a difference, and actually organics are somewhat beneficial to the system, providing it is at sufficent quantities.

Cheers

actually i am asking the noise concerns. any ideas or opinion?

Buccaneer 11-29-2003 09:03 AM

My Beckett runs pretty quiet ... you could run the air intake outside of the room with the tank if you wanted it completely quiet ... the pump to run it on the other hand will vary alot as far as noise depending on what you get.

Cheers

EmilyB 11-29-2003 08:15 PM

I cannot hear my Euroreefs run at all. You just make sure the pump isn't next to the glass...

dyereefer 01-07-2004 02:51 AM

Wel I have the ES8-2 I am very happy with it skims well but I still think that beckett is the way to go If you care about the noise factor

dyereefer 01-07-2004 02:52 AM

I meant to say was beckett is better If you can deal with the noise.

BCOrchidGuy 01-08-2004 12:07 AM

How can you hear anything with all that puking going on Emily... lol.. yuck

EuroReef vs PM Bullet

How would you say these 2 skimmers compare ?

dyereefer 01-12-2004 12:13 AM

IMO the pm is probably slightly better for skimming but euro reef is quieter and much easier to set up and no messing around with adjustments . The question comes down to whats important to you.

Skimmer

Got my ES 6-2+ on Friday from J & L. Set it up on Saturday. It seems to be working alright. Not making realy dark skimate, but good dark green wet stuff. I have a very light bioload ( 2 fish, 3 shrimp, 30 snails and 30 crabs) so I don't expect it to be overworked for another few months.
Euro-reef does a great job on the packaging and it is definatley a solidly built unit. Very quiet. Between the Mag 18 and 2 MH ballasts humming it is not noticable.
For those running one of these, how deep is the water in your sump?
Does the depth make much of a difference with this style?
For the sarcastic people out there, I realize that it has to be deep enough to cover the pump so it doesn't burn out.

Cheers,

Al

dyereefer 01-12-2004 04:32 AM

I agree on the packing I am starting to wonder how much of the total cost
was packing lol .Depth of water in your sump seems to make no difference in the performance.

EmilyB 01-12-2004 06:04 AM

yah, the packing is a class act..

I'm testing out some new depths now...I have the CS6-3 which is really tall. And I had to ram the CS8-1 into the new sump...

It doesn't really seem to affect the performance.
