LOL I didn't last long

Well I've been in Mexico for a day and a half now and I'm already back on here  My other 3 friends I'm with are all on facebook, but for me canreef is were it's at.

I must say our hotel is huge, the swim up bar is amazing, and listening to the waves crash on the beach at night is the best! The wedding (my friend Josee and Vik) is tomorrow and we're going into town for shopping on Wed. Hope to do some snorkeling soon  TTYL Love me

Where in Mexico did you go Laurie? I know you were talking about the Mayan Riviera.

Yep I'm sitting at the computer at the Grand riviera princess hotel in Mexico at the Mayan riviera. Going to go to bed soon. Hope to go to XEL-HA on Thursday.

Reef_surfer 04-13-2010 05:02 AM

i was there this exact week last year for a wedding lol at Grand Bahia principa TULUM .

XEL-HA is amazing but when your snorkling watch out for the 6' barracuda. and if you stick to the far side of the cove there is alot of neat little fish and caves to explore!

we took the community bus instead of a taxi i belive it was only 2 peso's/person. Hope you have alot of fun!

Great snorkling at Xel-Ha. Have fun.

Treebeard 04-13-2010 05:40 PM

Xel-Ha is nice, but free is better! Half Moon Bay at Akumal has some great snorkeling. Coincidently I just booked a week at La Joya condos for next January.

Xel-ha: We all have our opinions and expectations when some recommends a place. I was in Cozumel and planned a day trip to Tulum and Xel-ha. IMO Xel-ha was over priced ($90US)and the snorkelling was terrible. Sure there is some fish but the water is murky and you are snorkeling with 1000+ other people. I left after a 1/2 hour and asked for my money back and only got 1/2 my admission back. The murky water is caused by underground fresh water and the vast number a snorkelers.

If you want good snorkeling take the ferry over to Cozumel and find a tour operator such a Dive Palancar that will take you to the south end of Cozumel at Columbia Shallows. It was only $29 for a 2 hr excursion and included all equipment and free beer/pop. PM me if you want more details.

+ 1 on the half moon bay, Acumal. I was there just last month, and are there ever a lot of turtles there. They are used to snorkelers as well, so they do not swim away.
I swam out to the breakwater (watch out for boats) and saw a basking shark on the bottom.
And its all free, public beach!

Can we say Laurie is addicted to Canreef?

heh

In case anyone cares, here is the link for the webcam of the beach at Akumal.
Its just beside a dive shop, can't remember the name.
The public swimming (roped off) is to the left of the scene and continues for quite a bit.
Although people swim all over the place.

Its time for a name change Laurie, I don't think "Canreefaddict" or " canreefoholic" are taken yet.

Treebeard 04-14-2010 12:31 AM

The webcam is on the Lo Ha beach bar, and hosted by LocoGringo

I heard about Acumal, maybe I'll save us all some $$$ and just go there instead. I tried to snorkel today and I couldn't quite do it  I hate breathing out of my mouth and anytime I saw a fish I'd smile and my mask would fill up with water. Almost had it figured out a few time but then a big wave would come by and screw me all up. I'll post lots of pic.'s when I get back home.

Treebeard 04-14-2010 02:41 PM

Just keep your face in the water when you are snorkeling. As soon as you look up and try to breathe you are sucking water.

Looks like I'll be going to Xel-ha after all. All of my friends who are on this trip with us (for the wedding) booked it, so we didn't want to be left out. We were supposed to go today but it was pouring rain this morning so we switched the trip to Sat. Since early this morning the rain has almost stoped so here's hoping the weather gets better. Our room also flooded (from the rain) so we're hoping to switch rooms today, but we have to wait until 12 noon (check out time) to see if another room is available. We have a spa trip booked for 12:30pm so I'm not sure we'll have time to swap rooms before we go to the spa. Steve went to the beach but I heard it was red flaged (which means you can't go in to swim) so I'll see if I can find him. I was going to take a nap, got up at 5:15am this moring for our trip to Xel-ha that we moved to Sat., but the maids are in our room right now trying to get all the water out :twised: Fun trip so far  At least the wedding day was nice.
