Who needed the stool to getup onto the stand ?

Note for file, "rubbermaid stool would make a good stand"

We're actually testing the weight bearing capacity of the stand. We're now fairly certain is will hold a 40g tank.

40G tank huh ? ... lets see .. approximately 10 LB per Gallon X 40 = 400LB and you 2 are a slim what ? ... 180 each ? ... so lets say 360 combined ... so your testing aint done yet fellas ... however if you were slightly more than 180 each at oh < scratches head > 200 maybe ? then your testing is done

Stand looks great btw

Cheers

Let's just say, without any numbers, the tank will be more than fine on that stand!!

Samw 10-20-2003 06:00 AM

Did you include 1-2 lbs of liverock per gallon?

Sam, this is a frag tank. A small bed of sand and maybe a bit of rock under the trays. But ya, it still would have been fine full of rock!

Good point Sam but I think Brad is confident his test is adequate for the load bearing capacity of that stand

Cheers

Nice looking sturdy stand.

Did you use screws? Did you glue the joints?

Screws, yes. Glue, no. The sheathing is glued onto the frame though.

Jack 10-20-2003 06:14 AM

Ah, I like the no brace for the sump idea. Whats this tank gonna be for Brad?

That was my first guess actually after seeing the picture. I didn't think you'd have use for a 40gal show tank.

Jack 10-20-2003 06:16 AM

Ah, frag tank. Gotcha. That was my guess anyways

Aquattro 10-20-2003 06:20 AM

Here's a pic of the project further along. I ran out of wood to finish the front, but you get the idea.

 Holy cow it looks so good. You make it look easy.

Jack 10-20-2003 06:29 AM

...oops one more question. Where did you get the tank from and the dimensions?

Well, it isn't too difficult if you have the tools (like Steve does). And a closeup would show you how much is really left to do. Since this is just a rough setup, I won't put too much into it, but so far it took about 3 hours.

no, cuse the rock will actualy displace its mass in water (sence we are on earth the mass is = to its weight  )

so a 40 gall tank with 40lbs of wet live rock should still be the same weight as a 40 gal tank with just water.

I was going to ask how the hood ended up fitting but it looks pretty good from that pic.
