Anyone been at Pisces lately? (Em?) I heard they had some T-5's for a reasonable price. I'm looking for some 4' antics. Anyone trying them yet other than Jonathan ? - he seems to like them.
|
No, but I'm on my way there right now. I'll have a look.
|
$44.99 for one 4'ballast and bulb. They don't sell bulbs separately yet.
I see the white bulbs are only 6500k - anyone see them lit ? |
Hey Deb,
Check to see if they are the disposible ones. The t-5's around here are one time use only........ although 10K colour temp. I thought they were a deal until I fouund out they were single use. Cheers, Vic |
 Single use bulbs ?? Please elaborate. Not sure I understand..
|
Thanks for checking Deb  You still interested in them ?

ah, that might explain why they always come with a ballast, thanks victor. The dude just said duh.
Yes Andy I still am looking at the T5's. Very much so. |
The T5's at Pisces do come with the ballast but the bulbs are removable so they can be replaced later on ... I actually picked up a 6500K and a actinic for my daughters tank ( 15G Nano )
Cheers |
just curious how many watts are these T5's you are buying?
Steve |
The ones for my daughters tank are 22 1/2" long and 14W
Cheers |
ok so these are the standard energy saving comercial t5's not the HO T5;s that the fish industry is raving about. looks like a local LFS is trying to hitch a ride on the hype sale with the wrong product.
Steve |
Whats wrong with it exactly ? ... the spectrum is correct and it is going over a 15G nano ? ... you dont think it will be enough light to grow some softies and some LPS ?
Cheers |
the hype in the reef comunity is based on the high output version of the T5 bulb. a 2 foot bulb is about 40 watts output and the intensity is much higher than the standard t5 . will they work on a small tank, probably, let us know. I see that some people are using NO tubes on reef tanks with some success. I was simply stationg that I see a lot of LFS claiming to have "The" T5 light the industry is going crazy over, and then they sell the no versions of them. and I am not saying that they even know they are doing this or maybe they do.

Actually I did check into the HO version but it was going to cost about 120.00 + shipping ( that is actinic + 6500 daylight + workhorse ballast ) and who knows how much to come across the border ???
The bulbs including ballast were 74.87 including GST and I got to test it to make sure it worked ( one bulb was mislabled actinic but was actually daylight ) and walk out the door with it  ... I am sure for what we are using it for it will be fine ... thanks for pointing that out though PS ... just so you know the 22" HO bulb is actually only 24W not 40W Cheers |
