My First Impression of Red Coral
So I'm on a business trip to Edmonton a while back, and decided to make my return trip to Medicine Hat a "Fish Store Tour" hitting as many as I could on my round trip. My last stop was Red Coral, up to that point I had been to four other stores and barely bought anything because nothing had caught my eye or the price was too steep. Anyway, I walk into the store and hit it off with Kevin immediately, he's just one of those guys that after five minutes of talking you feel like you've known him for years. The selection of corals was out of this world, and while not a huge amount of dry goods, he had everything that counts. I picked up some livestock (a really cool Carpet Nem among others), and some supplies. I've been hesitating on the Zeo for months now being a skeptic to avoid buying the expensive supplements but he sold me on it and got me all set up. In the meantime my wife thinks I must be broke down on the road somewhere because I should have been home long ago, and here I am shooting the breeze with Kevin! I left the store with everything all secured and insulated for the trip... broke... and feeling great... WHAT A HOBBY!
Kevin, keep up the excellent work and keep your personal touch in the store, its priceless! You know I'll be coming for a visit next time I am in the city. |
I agree, neat little store.
Now you just gotta post a picture of that carpet! |
Cheyanne and myself have to agree. Keep up the good job Kevin you make spending money a pleasure and it's nice to deal with someone who is just as excited about your tank as you are.
|
Kevin your store rocks man, its a great place for me to burn a couple of hundred bucks everytime i come by lol.
|
Kevin is a great guy and easy to deal with. Always great stock and great service. Red Coral is kinda like going to vegas though because you never seem to leave with the same amount of money you went in there with.
The worst is that Doug character, he seems to be able to talk a guy into buying anything. |
I know what you mean. I was there yesterday, AGAIN!!! After buying some stuff I had to head out, but after 30 minutes or so, I was still there. Kevin is a great guy and we just shoot the breeze.
As the others say, keep up the good work Kevin. Thanks for the frags yesterday and the KALK. |
I hope they start putting all their coral on the website cause i keep hearing how amazing it is and i would love to buy some.
|
I agree with you. The guys at Red Coral have helped me get started in this hobby. If they were in my backyard I would definitely have an even higher visa bill. Really helpful, friendly and with a great selection.
|
Cant wait till the weekend to meet kevin in person, and check out the store that everyone is braging about!
|
I can't wait to get there. I am planning on Sunday. However last week when I tried to make it, I had a serious case of head in *ss! I was armed with a phone number, phoned got directions, got lost and ran out of time. When I got home looked up the address and felt shame! I can't wait!
|
My first impression of RED Coral was 600 dollars later and its still going good and bringing me back for more and more.
Thanks Kevin I wish that I lived there................ |
although I live an hour away Kevin still manages to get around half of my pay check :lol:
|
Kevin is a stand up guy very knowlegable and has a great sense of humour. Also his staff that I have met personally Doug and Carmen you two make that store even more fun to go to and spend an hour to get some laughs and spend some money. Great job guys keep it up.
|
I just give Kevin my bank account PIN. It is easier that way.
By the way, for those out of towners hoping to catch Kevin on the weekends, he typically does not work weekends. Rather, you will most likely be greeted by the always knowledgeable "fishytime" Doug and/or the ravishing "Carmen" Electra. (both as friendly and chatty as Kevin :) ) |

 I was just re-reading this thread and I just now noticed what fishytime and muck below are talking about  I totally spelled STORE and STAFF wrong! Man I must of been tired when I 1st posted that 5 months ago, pretty sad that I never noticed until now! |
I dont work there!......the word work to me sounds like something your not supposed to enjoy.....I get paid to do something I love, and feel lucky to be able to do so....hopefully that's obvious to anyone who's been in on the weekends.....
Thanks everyone, for your kind words and supporting our little store... p.s.....have you been drinking already this morning Laurie? |

I agree with the Above posts except for one thing... Your all forgetting about Carmen!
Great staff and selection, always an enjoyable visit |
Well today was not my first time at Red Coral but I just was to shout out to Doug and Carmen for doing a hell of a job there today and Doug those bulbs we figured on are amazing I never knew my tank could look so nice. I'm gonna try to get a new pic up on my nano thread of the difference.
Thanks guys you both rock |
Glad to have both you and Josh in today Terry! You RedDeer guys are always such a pleasure to visit with at the shop!
|
RC is the BOMB baby, Kevin, Doug and little miss Carmen are without a doubt the bee's knee's, the cat meow & just plain awesome people.
|
I stopped in and checked it wile I was in Calgary the other week end was was very impressed with the live stock selection.
Doug was very helpful with answering all of my questions and will defiantly be stopping in there again the next time i'm in town. Good work guys and keep it up:biggrin: |
I have been meaning to post about this store for awhile now. I' am a man of few word. What can I say about Red Coral that has not been said before. It is a quaint little store. Live stock is heath. A good selection of dry goods. If the do not have what you are looking for. They would try to order it in for you. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. Kevin the own is a great guy. I visit this store once or twice a week. Some times more. If I have a bad week it is a good place to hang and talk to the staff and fellow customers. I have learned a lot there. Needless to say it became my second home. Keep up the good work. I see great this for the store in the future.
|
My only complaint about Red Coral is that there isn't one in South Calgary...
*Cough Cough... Hint... Kevin... Cough Cough..... I would be stopping by at least a few times a week if It wasn't a 3 hour escapade back and forth. |
+1
Actually more like +1billion. Can't agree more. I know! Since opening a south store doesn't seem to be happening, how about we petition them just to move the store south? Hahahaha, just KIDDING, northerners!!! :p Quote:

They are in the NW of the city, across from Winston Churchill high school (if that helps) or just sorta a couple blocks away from Northland Mall (if that helps landmark it. If not, um .. it's not terribly far from the university). |
Edmonton
Looking forward to the new Edmonton location opening soon!

Finally got to meet Carmen and Doug today, they're awesome! It's the first time I have been to Red Coral without Kevin there but he couldn't ask for better people to run the show. Craig and Nora in Lethbridge are also excellent and I'm sure the Edmonton store won't be any different. Kevin sure is lucky to have such a great staff.
|
Yes I couldn't ask for a better team.
Calgary: Doug and Carmen on the weekend Lisa helping out during the week Lethbridge: Craig and Nora Edmonton: Steve and Tanis Great people give great results. It's always a pleasure. Thank you for your support. Kevin |
Yup, I was also there today... good to meet some of you (hey lorenz0, where is my money. HEHE, just kidding)
Kevin again took some dough from me, can't help not leaving without something. New clam is in tank, half open for now, but doing well. |
I just had to remind you of that. damn it ha ha
probably one of my favorite places to stop by. i honestly think i spend more time at RC than visiting my parents every week |
