Canreef Site down?
Has anybody been experiencing website access problems in the last few days?
|
I've had problems the last few days also. I use firefox and every now and again I can get on with IE and not with firefox.
|
I have. Its hit or miss if I get on or not. What I do is reset my modem and clean the files off the PC. Sometimes it works sometimes it doesn`t. When I do get on I don`t close the window and it stays up.

If I type in www.canreef.com, I sometimes get the error "cannot find server", but if I type in http://216.187.96.54/modules/Active_Topics/index.php,
I always connect. (I don't actually type that in, but I have bookmarked it) Mitch |
Same here, hit and miss.

This is an indication that there are DNS server issues, or the DNS servers are down. All domains run on top of an actual IP address, however not all websites have their own unique IP. Most sites out there are on virtual hosting, which means they share the ip address and then it is up to the web server to determine where to go based on the domain name. So in that case using an IP address like you do above would not work. I have also noticed canreef up and down quite a bit. Guys if you need help let me know, this is what I do for a living. |

I have the problem at home only. It happens on both computer using IE and Firefox
|
I think Titus knows what is going on, at least he did the last time it was down for a length of time. Every night the site goes off line for a few minutes for maintenance (very early in the morning 4am I think) but for some reason whatever makes it go "back online" doesn't happen so it stays offline until it either gets resolved or someone manually does it. I'll let Titus know its happening again.

Hello,
Recently we did have three outages and statistically speaking it's a bit more frequent than usual. The first one occurred on 15 Nov 09, the second one on 20 Feb 10 for half a day, and the last occurred on morning of 8 Mar 10 before most people wakes up. The first one was due to our web server locking up server resources, an extremely rare situation. If this happens again, I may as well go try the lottery. The second one was not recovered in time due to me missing my alert e-mail on that day. The third one I have caught it while I was trying to access the site. Aside from these dates, there have been none. A monitoring agent checks the web server every 2 minutes and if there's a problem in retrieving web pages amongst other things, I get an alert e-mail, and the agent will attempt to restart the web server. There was indeed a bug with the agent under some situations. I have updated it on 8 Mar 10, and am planning to release a better one 2H 10. Christy also mentioned about a daily outage occurring at around 4-5am EST depending its winter or summer. This happens during our daily maintenance and is expected. The outage should last for less than 5 minutes. As for the IE vs Safari issue, this would be a local problem out of our control as I've accessed the site through many different locations using either browser just fine. As for being able to use IP but not via domain name, that has to do with DNS server look up as mentioned. Since we're on fixed IP, that would imply an issue with the DNS servers used local to your geographical area. Next time this happens open your command prompt and type in "tracert www.canreef.com" to see where it's stuck. You may then report this to your ISP. Titus |

but sooner rather then later the page won't load. Then I gotta go through the rigga morrow of getting the page back up. I usually can get back on with my Laptop but my Desktop I don't even bother trying anymore. |

Thats strange. It loads no problems for me. I remember having a problem with Firefox once but never Explorer or now with Safari. The link I had on Firefox was an old one or something. I,m not the best with computers, so not much else I can help with. |
I am having issues as well with my desktop.
|
ive been having problems too, hah perhaps it is with the dns records on your isp. i am with telus and have problems about 2/3 of the time getting on lately
|
Hello,
Guys if you have problem loading the site. Can you please do the following: 1) Open a command prompt 2) Type tracert www.canreef.com 3) Copy and paste the output here Titus |
|
That trace route looks like a problem with your ISP... 192.168 subnets are internal to local networks, next you should of seen it go to your ISP IP assigned to your computer and make its way through the net to canreef.
So I am thinking you were having ISP issues or routing issues through your ISP. If others were having problems, who is your ISP. I am thinking that if you guys post your ISP, you will find a commonality. |
I'm on Telus. But why can I get on with my Laptop and not the desktop?
