Nice Checkerboard Laurie.
How big is your Lunare? And how is it for aggression? Apparently, they can get quite nasty when they get to a certain size. Mine is about 6" (no wise-cracks people), and is starting to get a little belligerent with some of the smaller fishes. If the Tuskfish didn't keep him in his place I'm sure he'd be the terror of the tank. Hopefully he doesn't get any worse as he grows.

Thanks the checkerboard was from another member and he's been great. My lunare is about 6" too, and is aggressive towards other similar size/shape fish. I had him with a small red corris wrasse (before the velvet) and he was ok with him but that wrasse was only an 1 1/2" to 2" big. During QT when the lunare was with the checkerboard wrasse (checkerboard is now in the reef tank and the lunare is in the fowlr) he constantly attacked the checkerboard  The grouper I have used to sort of pick on the lunare but they seem fine together now and the other fish in that tank are different types (trigger, angel, puffer, foxface) and they get along fine. I would like a tuskfish but I'd worry that my lunare and grouper would pick on one too much.

I'd love more wrasses but my lunare would pick on any that were big enough for the grouper not to eat! and my reef tank already has a fair amount of fish and a devil damsel that likes to chase wrasses :twised:

Yup. He's in the 225g. No crabs or shrimp, just large snails which he leaves alone.

Do different species of wrasse's live well together in the same tank? Say like some tangs do. Ive only ever owned a six line, and he was a little dink. Would be nice to get a few of the nice colourful ones.

Felix 02-19-2010 04:43 AM

Well thats decided it. As soon as I'm back from the States I'm going to :grab: me a McCoskers.

Thanks! The Five Stripe is a striking wrasse but can be quite aggressive like others in his family (Lunare, Sunset, Banana, etc). This one particularly does not like other torpedo-like fish at all, but doesn't seem to bother any other fish.

The Melanarus is one of the calmest wrasses I own and I own a few

Lance 06-09-2010 04:40 PM

Sounds like a good slogan: "Reefers have the nicest Wrasses!"

If I wasn't so lazy I'd graph the perversion level trend around here. Rest assured it's a steep muthafraggin' slope!
