Flames/Maple Leafs Trade

So the Flames did pull the trigger,I figured they would. Phaneuf was in the back of my mind to be traded by the way he was playing. Also if you watched the last few games he seemed to "pick it up".
So the Flames Trade
Phanuef,Sjostrom and Aulie for
Stajan,Hagman,White and Mayers.

Dunno one minute I don't mind this deal and the next I want to burn all my Flames gear :)

But really I think Phaneuf was a problem in the room, plus we gain back on the salary cap.
Toronto gain in the long term cause Phaneuf will be around for a long while. Calgary will
gain in the short term with these players.

So do you think this was good/bad? Do you think anything else will happen within the Flames?

Chase31 01-31-2010 05:38 PM

i believe burning all flames gear is still necessary, actually it always was.

I think it was a good trade over all, and Toronto getting guigare was a good move too, think there going to go some ware

yea i know we suck ass but i will never ever cheer for calgary, i bleed copper and blue till the end.

burrows14 01-31-2010 06:23 PM

I dont know if that was a good trade either. I think the flames should have got more quality instead of quantity for phenuf. im sure if you could have gotten more from another team in a couple of weeks. Seems like it was a trade just for the sake of making a trade

ponokareefer 01-31-2010 06:36 PM

I'm a believer in that, whoever ends up with the best player in a trade, usually wins the trade. This helps the Flames in terms of cap relief, and gets rid of a player that is underachieving, but I still think Toronto will end up as the winner. If this is the first trade for Calgary, and there is better things to come prior to the deadline, then they might make out well.
As from Toronto's perspective, they get a former, very promising defenseman. Will he return to that form though? I have never been much of a Phanuef fan though. Too many bricks short of a full load.

pelle31 01-31-2010 06:44 PM

I don't think the trade was just for the "sake of making a trade".
I think Phaneuf was a problem in the room. His ice time was down with the addition
of JBO and I think he got kinda ****y about it. Now JBO is not having a good year but
he's not hindering us either. If Phaneuf would have "played" and been better then JBO
then I think he would have gotten more ice time. Really if you look at Giordano is playing 10X
better then Phaneuf.

Will Phaneuf return to the form we have seen in the past? who knows time will tell.
Its funny though that Toronto trades away almost all of their scoring and now Blake
gone as well? maybe in a year or 2 this will work out for TO but it won't help much this year.
Yea they may have a better PP but I don't see how these trades will keep the puck out
their net.

ha ha ha, ya the "shames" did have a really bad streak. I have nothing against edmonton, you guys up there just take it so seriously and seem to have more of a grudge than we do. stiring the pot is just fun

Crytone 01-31-2010 09:22 PM

I'm so confused about this trade. I don't really think it was the best move on Calgary's part. And the people they got.. not exactly who I'd be trading Phaneuf for!

Who said I was in Edmonton??? lol.

WOW...Big loss for Calgary in that trade IMO....Dion is a young d man who has had a bad season but still can be the heart and soul of the d for a decade or more. What they got was cap room and a few players who "may" help them down the road.
Pft Chicago with the 1st overall....My Oil have that wrapped up Souray's busted hand only helps ensure our risr to the bottom (). I actually think this could be good for the oil long run allthough it hurts sooo bad atm. They are going to continude to get good young talent to go with eberle and company and If katz eats som $ and sends a couple big contract down to the minors as he has hinted at the rebuild could come faster than most expect.

Calgary should be concern they are underachieveing this year and have no significant prospects in the system, not a good scenario for long term success. BTW- Calgary flame fan may be the dumbest fans ever- When iginla got in that fight they all went crazy and cheered him on....seriously he was 1 injury from a season ender for himself and the flames...you all should have gasped and held your breath. He is the stupidest captain in the NHL he is paid for points not completely useless fights.

Are you insane? Gasped and hold our breath? Stupid Captain? Edmonton only wishes that they have someone like Iggy on thier team. Your gonna tell me that Souray had nothin to do
with starting that fight? This was a revenge deal that backfired on Souray. I would say
that was a mutal fight for the hit that Edmonton was whinning about a few month's back.
Iggy obliged.....you could see it was gonna happen when they lined up and Souray started
beaking. Gotta hand it too Iginla for letting Souray have a chance for some payback.

What makes me laugh is who is gonna wanna trade for him now with a busted wrist? The stupid one is Souray in this deal.

Ian 02-01-2010 04:16 AM

Nope not insane..... of course souray had something to do with it but he was trying to get his team going and yes get a little revenge for a cheap shot earlier in the season. My point was Iginla has no business fighting it is not what he is paid for and an injury to him would flush the flames season alltogether. he is the heart and soul of the team.
The game was over he had nothing to gain by fighting and could have skated away but he was to stupid to do so. Had the punch that broke Souray's hand landed a couple inches lower you beloved Iggy may have been out for a long time. It was a stupid decision by Iginla and continues to show that while he is highly talanted he is dumb and in this case selfish... and flame fans who cheer him on while he is fighting are morons who don't realise he is risking the TEAMS entire season every time he does this.

ElGuappo 02-01-2010 08:33 AM

This may just be me, but i liked hockey a lot better when it was a sport and not a Business. what ever happened to playing hard in one of the best rivalries in hockey.

Not too sure what i think about the trade yet. ive heard phanuef is not a great guy to have in the locker room. therefor he will never be a good captain. and yes they are dicthing for cap room. i heard Jokinen next.

wickedfrags 02-01-2010 12:30 PM

Good trade overall for Toronto IMO.

That being said, Toronto will stink until there is a NHL team in Hamilton
